I did not realize that Washington was so wealthy. $525M in 2010 dollars! But I wonder how much of that was his land and Mt. Vernon. Or how much of it was liquid? (Not talking about his cellars!)

What say you @Green Arrow?
When I read rants against the bankers, are those the same people that use banks?

Didn't George marry rich?
Tradition is not the worship of ashes, but the preservation of fire. ― Gustav Mahler
Speaking in General, when they rant against the rich, most of what wealth they have is locked up in things like homes, lands, fancy vehicles, stocks and bonds. Compared to their holdings, not much is in banks.
It was on the tour of Mt. Vernon that the guide informed all of us how rich G. Washington was. He had vast land holdings. Mt. Vernon is but the remainder. Even today, (from memory so could be wrong) the present Mt. Vernon site of roughly 5,000 acres could be worth what? Apparently your figure has to be the sum.
Ah yes.
And rich....On January 6, 1759, Washington married the wealthy widow Martha Dandridge Custis, then 28 years old. Surviving letters suggest that he may have been in love at the time with Sally Fairfax, the wife of a friend.[53] Nevertheless, George and Martha made a compatible marriage, because Martha was intelligent, gracious, and experienced in managing a planter's estate.[54]
