We don't cut old growth forest anymore, and haven't for years. Mostly, we cut trees planted for harvesting, particularly in the deep south.

What these people are doing in the video is an attempt at blatant emotional manipulation.

Its called making the other person into an emotional hostage for increased power and profit.

This is a very common tactic among passive aggressive personality types.

They are actually acting like bullies, but they use you're own emotions, triggered by their faux Drama as their fist.

These people are abusive, profiteering, self-serving and EVIL!

There is a $#@!load of money to be made from "Going Green", just ask Al Gore. I have no problems with recycling and reusing, but don't tell me I can't use resources that are available. It only makes sense to use them wisely so they will be around longer, but the people that demonize the system are simply self righteous a-holes.

Example: Someone I know works for Exxon and several times a month there will be protestors outside of the building $#@!ing about the "evil oil company". The irony is that they arrive in automobiles, hold up plastic signs, talk on cell phones and wear clothes made of synthetic materials. All items that are possible because oil.

Nothing but a bunch of hypocrites!

Of course they really want to live with you in the woods with nothing, but they are important people and need these modern conveniences because they care

There's a difference between capitalism and hegemonic capitalism.

Can you define hegemonic capitalism for those of us lacking in nuance?

Well capitalism is capitalism. Hegemonic capitalism implies influence or control over the system by a small group of powerful people. Capitalism alone only implies trade and the free market and that it's owned privately. Hegemonic capitalism implies and is characterized by undue influence on government and regulations by said groups (lobbyists etc...). Hegemony and domination of a system.

These environmentalists are talking about large transnational groups and corporate banking elites that dominate governments all over the world. To my knowledge they are not talking about the false headline of ending capitalism (you have to get used to false headlines around here). They are talking about ending the influence of large corporations on legislation, particularly environmental legislation. In essence they don't want the fox designing the hen house. That being said, they are a bit idealistic and naive. We live in a complicated and interdependent world. We require complex relationships between govt and industry to keep the machine running.

In other words, these groups want to continue to have free reign to burden everyone with environmental extremism and not have any check on that from the burdened.

    Got it.

Let's see, you say you make furniture. Now suppose that some group that knows nothing about what you do wants to impose some regulation on you that will make your costs much higher or make it impossible for you to make furniture. Should you be blocked from having input on that?

This is exactly what is going on in the U.S. now. Billions upon billions of new regulations being imposed with little input from the governed. Destroying or driving industry and jobs off shore, including, ironically, to Canada.
