True, but Stewart was obviously a relatively successful one to begin with or he wouldn't have landed TDS to begin with. obviously if he was really the best of the best he might have landed The Tonight Show or something but he found a new territory that was not sufficiently explored and have obviously done well since.

I have been trying to think of the name of the female stand up comedian that found Stewart and was the first producer of the Show. She is always on MSDNC and always has tuned her comedy towards criticsms of those on the right. Stewart didn't do to much stand-up comedy as you said she discovered him and found that niche. One tends to see most of the others go way of the comedy movies.

Jan Brewer is a comedian alright, but her primary gig is governor of Arizona.

Stewart had a show on MTV before TDS. He's not a comedian. He's got a show with great writers, that addresses current issues. That's the formula for success.
Same with Colbert.

Look how many people have become successful as a result of their time on TDS.
