And if we should die tonight
Then we should all die together
Raise a glass of wine for the last time
Calling out father, prepare as we will
Watch the flames burn auburn on the mountain side
    Desolation comes upon the sky..

Back then, the Democrats had a strangle hold on the Federal Government. They did not need to bring in illegals and offer them bribes to get their vote. They cruised on FDR shirt tails for a long time. Even though Ike won, his win was due more to his hero status of WW2 than other things. Truman got into trouble with Korea too.

    Things today are vastly different.

Democrats openly cajole illegals to invade this country. Obama promises them education and help.

That alone causes them to think he is a fine person.

So, i registered to vote so long ago I can't recall what CA demanded. Today being in the system, I have to prove my vote is proper by dealing with questions at the polling place.

Today we must prove the illegals are citizens,. Which is impossible thus the Democrats reject voter ID's

They don't play games. They promise cell phones and free gasoline to get Democrats to vote for them. Voter fraud is spread out all over. They don't get caught because Eric Holder does not want them caught.

I hate to introduce mundane things like facts, history and common sense into such a good argument.... however, in case you haven't noticed we suck at prohibiting citizens access to things . For example drugs or guns, Cuban cigars, illegal exotic pets or even millions of whole people illegally living here. We can't stop guns but the good news is if we give up the illusion that we can stop drugs most shootings will stop.

You have even less chance of winding up impoverished or a crackhead. Do poverty and drug abuse therefore not matter? This is a relatively violent country as far as the developed world is concerned. There is no question about that. The level of violence in America is often shocking to foreigners and rightfully so. That said, we don't have a problem with guns so much as a cultural problem in urban communities of color.

In any case, the point of the OP was that we need to do something about gun violence. Let's accept that premise. Further restrictions on firearms will have very little impact on gun violence once one acknowledges who the perpetrators typically are.

The level of violence is pretty low if you stay out of the places you really don't need to be in anyway.

Sort of like test scores in high school.

Of course it is. That's my point. The problem is a largely localized one. The proposals in the OP and just about everywhere else this topic comes up are akin to leaving an accident victim on the street while rushing a bystander to the hospital. Were it not for the recurrent mayhem in some of our urban areas our rates of violent crime would be utterly unremarkable but in fact they're staggering.

True but I saw something in the paper that disturbed me. They are forcing teachers in some states to go to other schools where they think they are needed,,IE sub par and troubled school districts.

My wife is not an educator but I'd be damned if they tried to force her to go into some crime ridden place to try to teach a bunch of gang bangers who could care less about any other education than street life when she had worked hard to get the job she has. Might as well beat them on the head for working hard, and trying to educate the youth..........as it is.

We need to correct our test scores. Factor out the failures. It is limited to a large extent to a certain group.

Yes and that group would be mostly those who imigrate or those who are brought here by mandated law. You do know that the gov. requires that we import a certain # from other countries, including those who would like to kill us.....don't you?

Now we open up the borders to everything that can rent a jet ski.....
