Give me earthquakes. You can spend many hours getting ready and many more hours in a hurricane. This one today was maybe 30 seconds. The great quake of Alaska lasted maybe close to 10 minutes. And it was a super quake. For most people a quake of 6 might feel like a large truck passed your home.

It could have been a lot worse - I'm thankful to live an area that only gets the occasional minor shake from way off to the east. I'm not keen on earthquakes.

I had never heard of the Napa fault till today. A 6 is mild. New buildings suffer no damage. Well, never is a long time but as a rule the modern building does not suffer as the old ones suffer.
