BREAKING: ISIS releases third beheading video, threatens another British hostage

Islamic State (Isis) militants have released a video showing the apparent beheading of a British hostage, David Haines.

Site, an intelligence group, which was the first to report Steven Sotloff’s beheading, confirmed the video’s release.

In the video, entitled A Message to America’s Allies, a masked man is shown carrying out the beheading of Haines, whose life had earlier been threatened in a video showing the murder of American journalist Steven Sotloff. Sotloff’s killing followed a threat on his life made in a video showing the beheading of another US journalist, James Foley.

The British Foreign Office has said it is aware of the video and “working urgently to verify” its content.

Haines, who was 44, was kidnapped last year. He had been in Syria for just three days when he was kidnapped and handed over to Islamic State (Isis) militants.

The murder comes one day after the Haines’ family released a statement urging his captors to contact them.

The aid worker was taken while working for Acted in Syria in March 2013, having previously helped people in Libya and South Sudan.

Any idealism they may have is washed away the moment they end up in the heat of battle, dead and injured women and kids strewn everywhere. This guy put himself through that on three separate tours. Calling him stupid is about as flagrant as you can get.

Nobody wants to do it, but the only way we stop this is to ignore them. They are doing this because they want attention. They want us to look and fear them and send them more victims.

Stop it. The next time they put up a beheading video, have every allied world leader call a press conference to talk about football and the weather. No touching, heartfelt profiles and letters from mom for the deceased. No memorials and calls for action. Pretend they don't exist and the charade will end.

You can be stupid and heroic. Stupid and compassionate. Stupid and brave. You're still stupid. And no, not all idealism is washed away in the heat of battle. Sometimes that is where you find it. Look at @Terminal Lance you will not find a dumber more noble douchebag in the entire military.
