@Redrose, this might help you go back to previous version: How to restore an iPhone after the botched iOS 8.0.1 update: "Apple has since pulled the iOS 8.0.1 update from its servers. If you have already updated your device, here's how you can roll it back to iOS 8."

I didn't do the update and the tech advised me not to.

Basically we were told a $600 ipad and $400 phone are pretty much useless now.

The tech said they maybe OK if he goes back to factory settings but he'll lose everything on them. He has the last photos of his parents before they died last year on there.
You can download everything via Itunes (if you know how) then do the factory reset. Reload what you want from Itunes.

Well, my husband's 20 month old 4 needed to be replaced apparently the card that controls wifi and bluetooth went bad. So we are upgrading my 4 and his to the 6. The update on the ipad went well, except I don't like the new changes, format is different, not hard to get used to but unnecessary IMO. Plus I think it's slower not faster. We have 32's and our usage is less than 10%. So it really shouldn't be running slower. My ipad locks up now when I'm using the keyboard. I have to reboot it each time. That problem is just since the update. The iPads are just under two years old too. DUMB!
