    "Chelsea" Manning

So the guy steals and leaks top secret classified information. Gets busted. Gets tossed in jail. And now wants the U.S. taxpayer to pay for his sex change.

The fact that this lawsuit even got this far is distressing.

He's in a military prison. The answer would be "NO". Let him be someone $#@! in prison, but that doesn't mean the military should have to fund a sex change for him. He joined as a MAN and he was a man for years. Now he's in prison and decides he wants to have a cutadicktoffme? Ain't happening.

I agree. Nothing more than yet another grandstand play by the ACLU to get more legislation from the bench.

I would like to know if there is anyone on this board that would actually support him in his law suit.

I might. It's a complicated issue where gender is concerned, and if someone legitimately feels like they were meant to be a woman then they should be able to make that change. Of course, I think he should be billed for it privately and it would complicate his prison time, but still. From what I understand it is severely psychologically distressing to people who feel they're in the wrong body and I can get that to some degree.

Billed privately? Who is going to give him the credit to bill him when he is in Federal Prison for the next xxx years.

Right. But I'm sure that there are work programs of some kind where he makes the money to buy various things they sell in prison, (commissary? I think that's what it's called). If he pays privately X amount for the entire time he's in prison I would guess that it would add up. I do think the hormones should be covered by the prison system, but not necessarily the surgery.

    Thumbs up

Manning within a month of being released...

Chelsea Manning Tweets About Impending Prison Release
20 Apr 2017 - With less than a month before her scheduled freedom, Chelsea Manning on Thursday tweeted her thoughts about getting out of prison.
With less than a month before her scheduled freedom, Chelsea Manning on Thursday tweeted her thoughts about getting out of prison after former President Obama commuted her sentence. "You know you've been in prison for a while, when the prospect of freedom is nerve wracking," she tweeted. Known as Bradley Manning at the time of her 2010 arrest, Manning came out as transgender after being sentenced to 35 years in an all-male military prison and dishonorable discharged for leaking classified military documents and video to WikiLeaks.

Chelsea Manning, center, attempted suicide for a second time on Oct 4.

She was convicted in military court of violating the Espionage Act and other offenses and has spent nearly seven years behind bars at Fort Leavenworth in Kansas. President Obama shortened her sentence before he left office earlier this year. Earlier this week, Manning tweeted, "30 more days," with the hashtag "#mondaymotivation."

Her case pitted LGBT rights activists, who warned about her mental health and treatment as a transgender woman living in a men's prison, against national security hawks who said she did devastating damage to U.S. interests. The former cheered Obama's move, while the latter called it an outrageous act that set a dangerous precedent. Under Army rules, she was barred from growing her hair long while incarcerated, and only after litigation by her legal team was she approved for hormone therapy.
