It's not exactly the same. It might be the same if the US was a predominately black nation that imported white slaves for over a century, then fought a civil war partially over it, then emancipated these white slaves yes still practiced segregation. Then for the next 100 years a culture of racism treated them as second class citizens helped lead to institutionalized problems of discrimination, crime and mistreatment by police. Then they are told that they should just forget about that history, yet still suffer from more subtle forms of racism. Yeah, then it might be the same.
