I'm lucky to have time enough to use a curling blow dryer on it, a quick smoothing brush and spray, (pantene) and I'm off!

Most hair products and treatments are a complete waste of money and are usually bad for your hair and skin.
Your body naturally produces an oily, waxy composite that coats and protects your hair and gives it volume and sheen.
Water is a strong enough solvent that it will exfoliate dead cells while dissolving dirt and killing bacteria through evaporative desiccation. There is zero need for acidic and basic cleansers like soap and shampoo. If you want an organic boost then use coconut oil and rinse gently with water.
The most likely explanation for your hair losing its vitality is poor circulation to the roots, which can be related to a number of things, including stress and thickening of your arteries. Depending on the extent of the damage, it could take months or years for it to return to normal, and that is only if you take good care of yourself (exercise, diet, rest, socialization, relaxation, etc.) in the meantime. There is NO miracle or cure or overnight fix to the problem and anyone telling you otherwise is selling something.
Power always thinks it has a great soul, and vast views, beyond the comprehension of the weak. And that it is doing God service when it is violating all His laws.
