    Yes, you do.

I remember going to Canada when we first got married in 91. I don't smoke but I was stunned to find cigarettes selling back then at $50/carton (they were under $20 in the US). Gas was almost double and booze around the same.

It was a jaw dropper for me.

But, back then the exchange rate was very favorable - like 2-1 so that made up the difference.

It's gotten worse. A carton of cigarettes is over $80 now as far as I know. Alcohol isn't too bad. A 26er is about $30, a mickey about $15. Cheap wine is usually $10.

And gas I think is still sold by the liter so one (American) has to convert that to US gallons and by exchange also to determine how much more expensive it is.

It's about 1.21/Litre in my area right now which is actually pretty low. So, times that by 3.78 to get gallons and it's 4.38/gallon if I did my math right.

The exchange rate is pretty even lately... I think and gas is selling in my area around $3.15.

There is a direct correlation between tobacco price increases and drops in smoking prevalence. The problem is that in America tobacco taxes are simply dumped into the general fund rather than being fully utilized for prevention , treatment and healthcare cost. Sin taxes should be 100% earmarked to help deal with and prevent the specific "sin".
However, global taxation is a ridiculous concept and needs to be squashed like a bug
