Govt is the reason I dion't track you down and put a bullet in yer face. I get a bit crabby sometimes. Govt runs the snowplow in my town, and street lamps and schools.. and without it.. we live on a dirt road, no sewers.. totally third world. But then again if I WAS a paranoid sociopath.. I'd trade that to be a serf in the 14th century. Get drunk.... I do that.. but at home. Then I don't have to be PARANOID about the Govt giving me a ticket ... after I wreck my car. The Govt is what we MADE it. Much of that was a good IDEA and if we are good Americans.. we keep our ..OUR GOVT on the tracks. If we are paranoid fools, rabble roused jerks.. then we pervert everything we touch.
Have a nice day...and follow your herd.
Did it ever occur to you the police were there for reason other than to harass you? If you didn't do anything wrong, why so paranoid? Did you tell the woman who you were and where you lived? If you did maybe the woman you helped was his wife, sister, mother, daughter and he wanted to thank you.
Also, if the cops were at your door because of something you were suspected of, doing a good deed somewhere else doesn't make a difference. It doesn't work that way.
The cops came to my door one evening, they were answering a 911 call made from a cell phone which does not give an address like land lines do. They knew the cell towers it pinged from and were literally going door to door trying to find the 911 caller. I was more than happy to help, I told him the woman across the road was elderly and lived with a grandchild who was at work. It was she who made the call, she felt faint and needed help. She got it.

If a cop is knocking on your door with his weapon holstered he isn't there to take you into custody. Look for these little cues and you won't wear your panic button out before its time.
My beliefs are a distillation of what I was taught as a child and what I observe as an adult.
Lol. Someone's sure paranoid/guilty/scared.
