Why are Democrats trying to strangle the life out of liberals?

For starters, let's just dispense with the notion that all Democrats are liberals and all Republicans are conservatives. That's just partisan claptrap. The sad reality is that both conservatives and liberals are minorities in their own parties, though both blocs are starting to regain strength in their respective parties.

It's still not enough, however. The Democratic party cannot be considered "liberal" as long as Democratic leadership continues to embrace policies that are not at all liberal, and strangle the life out of its liberal members. President Obama cannot be called a liberal when he changes course and extends America's combat involvement in Afghanistan, instead of drawing down our forces and getting us out. Nancy Pelosi can't be called a liberal when she helps pass a liberal amendment to Obamacare in exchange for liberal votes on the very UN-liberal helathcare plan, then strips the amendment from the final bill after getting the votes she needed, or refusing to even bring up an entirely separate, replacement bill to Obamacare that would have established a liberal healthcare system.

President Obama sent American bombers to Libya to overthrow Muammar Gaddafi. He comically used the Bush administration's arguments for the invasion of Iraq, to justify military intervention in Syria. He increased the number of drone strikes on foreign soil by over 500% of the Bush administration's totals. He admitted that we tortured people, not with an attitude of remorse and outrage, but with a blase, "oh well" attitude. He has barely lifted a finger to try and convince Congress to close GITMO.

These are not the actions of liberals. In fact, these actions are so far away from what liberal policy is supposed to look like, that I have to remind myself sometimes that Republicans don't still control the White House and both houses of Congress. The last six years have not looked all that different from the previous eight, particularly on foreign policy.

Worse than all of that, however, is the fact that Democrats are now trying to silence liberals. Liberals across the country are being kicked out of the club, so to speak, by Democrats for justly calling out the party and its followers for not acting as liberal as they ought. Liberals are exiles now in the Democratic Party. Criticize Obama on foreign policy and mention that Rand Paul is acting more liberal on foreign policy than the leader of the Democratic Party, and suddenly you're a Republican in their eyes.

Why are you guys trying to silence liberal dissent?

I've noticed a tendency among Americans to distrust or eve show contempt for people who believe strongly in anything. I also think this reveals how close ideologically the two parties actually are.

Most Americans these days seem almost surprised when they encounter someone who believes strongly in something. As opposed to most Americans' form of strong belief, which is generally no deeper than devotion to a sports team.

Yeah, it's something I've noticed over the last few years. Anyone with strong beliefs is an extremist (another meaningless term at this point) or trying to force their morality on society etc. Thus we have a government of spineless managers and administrators rather than leaders.

And some people totally ignore the other side and sound like a broken record as if no conversation ever occurred.

That's one of those things that makes them call me a conservative, lol. I end up looking back at historical leaders like Theodore Roosevelt, Otto von Bismarck, Napoleon Bonaparte, Caesar, and in the modern times, Vladimir Putin, and I kinda wonder what America would be like if we had a leader of their strength in power now.

It appears to be that anyone in politics claiming to be liberal are not liberal at all.

There are some true liberals and progressives in Congress, but they are a minority.

Obama is Bush III. Just another Globalist NWO POTUS like the others before him.

He's the best Republican POTUS since Bill Clinton. (DINO)

Liberalism has been dead since George McGovern, an only a few like Senators Warren and Sanders carry the liberal tag.

It just shows how far right the country has moved. Reagan and Nixon would be too liberal for the Republicans today.

The corporate behemoth and media and Fed is what rules us now, and they care not a whit what we think.
