Exclamation Malwarebytes Starts Bug Bounty Program Following Recent Security Bugs

Malwarebytes Starts Bug Bounty Program Following Recent Security Bugs
    By Catalin Cimpanu

    http://news.softpedia.com/news/malwa...s-499813.shtml
"Malwarebytes is a company most known for Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (MBAM), a Windows and Mac OS X security product that can identify, remove, and protect users against malware threats in real time."
"Mr. Ormandy discovered that MBAM was downloading signature updates via HTTP, and also not signing the updates, allowing for basic MitM (Man-in-the-Middle) attacks to take place."
"In the meantime, users that are still running current or older versions of MBAM can protect themselves against attempts to exploit Ormandy's security bugs by turning on MBAM's "self-protection feature."

Thanks to Softpedia for this report.

Imho, malware attacks are becoming more and more prevalent in today's computer world and one has to always stay ahead of the game if possible in order to avoid inadvertently downloading nasties into their computer OS. This report is good to have because it presents important information to all who use Malwarebytes.
Let's see how much care and compassion Trump and Republicans show for their fellow Americans to truly help them out in their time of need.

Let's start the count to see if Trump comes through on the many things he promised to do for Americans. If he doesn't, along with a Republican Congress, then what's his and their excuse?

Exclamation Avast SafeZone Browser Lets Attackers Access Your Filesystem

Avast SafeZone Browser Lets Attackers Access Your Filesystem
    By Catalin Cimpanu

    http://news.softpedia.com/news/avast...m-499990.shtml
"Although this attack relies on Avastium (Avast's port of Chromium), the victim does *not* have to be using it, and never has to have used it, because your profile is automatically imported from Chrome on startup," Mr. Ormandy noted, saying that bookmarks, preferences, passwords and cookies are automatically added to SafeZone without the user's consent."
"Additionally, you can send arbitrary *authenticated* HTTP requests, and read the responses," Mr. Ormandy also explained. "This allows an attacker to read cookies, email, interact with online banking and so on."
"Accessing this URL will tell you if you have a vulnerable version of the SafeZone browser installed on your PC."

Thanks to Softpedia for this report.

Imho, I have heard that Avast is quite a popular software that many use. I hope all gets straightened out soon.

Exclamation Microsoft Mystery KB3123862 Update Might Push Windows 10 on Windows 7 and 8.1

Microsoft Mystery KB3123862 Update Might Push Windows 10 on Windows 7 and 8.1
    By Bogdan Popa

    http://news.softpedia.com/news/micro...1-500127.shtml
"According to its official KB page, KB3123862 is an update aimed at Windows 7 Service Pack 1, Windows 8 core and Pro, and Windows 8.1 Enterprise and “adds capabilities to some computers that lets users easily learn about Windows 10 or start an upgrade to Windows 10.”
"Woody Leonhard of InfoWorld reveals that, after installation, KB3123862 generates new versions of Explorer.exe, including icons, menus, and bitmaps, Shell32.dll and Authui.dll"
"Moreover, he says, the update could be related to KB3035583, the infamous patch that brought us the Get Windows 10 app and that everyone removed so fast in order to make sure that the upgrade to Windows 10 is not started."

Thanks to Softpedia for this important report!

Imho, this report is one that everyone needs to read and become familiar with! It contains information that most computer users will find quite useful going forward with MS updates in order to be guarded from the possibility of automatically downloading the new Windows 10 system into your computer that you may not want to have at this time. Why the continued pressing to download something users may realistically not want to have?

What I personally do when reports like these become known is to copy the information pertaining to the KB in question and look for it when subsequent updates come in so that I can be ready to "hide" and dismiss that update.

Windows 10 Cumulative Update KB3135173 Resets Default Apps on Your PC

Windows 10 Cumulative Update KB3135173 Resets Default Apps on Your PC
    By Bogdan Popa

    http://news.softpedia.com/news/windo...c-500488.shtml
"KB3135173 is the very first Windows 10 cumulative update that comes with a change log, but as we’ve told you already, it seems to be doing more harm than good."
"While some users cannot install this update at all, those who do manage to deploy it complain that KB3135173 automatically resets their default apps, reconfiguring Microsoft’s solutions as the default options for browsing or viewing photos."
"InfoWorld is reporting that KB3135173 resets all default apps on a Windows 10 computer, so in case you were using Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox to browse the web, the chances are that Microsoft Edge is now the default option."

Thanks to Softpedia for this report.

Imho, these are only more problems of the new OS that have been identified. Why not fix all of these things first and then offer the new OS for download? Is that too much to ask?

Exclamation Optional Update and Windows 10

This is a WARNING to be on guard for the latest MS Update which came out today.

In it, KB3035583 is included as an optional update. However, it is one of the updates known to be associated with the downloading of WINDOWS 10 into your computer system. Therefore, it is up to you to consider whether you want to download that optional update or "Hide" it, as you can.
