Microsoft Explains How Windows 7 and 8.1 Will Get Cumulative Updates
Servicing changes taking place on this month’s Patch Tuesday

"Microsoft will make substantial changes to the way it delivers updates to Windows 7 and 8.1 computers tomorrow when it starts the rollout of this month’s Patch Tuesday, switching to a new servicing model that’s inspired by Windows 10."

"Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 computers will get a security-only quality update every month, and this will be published as “Security Update” with a unique KB number. Additionally, there’ll be a security monthly quality rollup which is more of a monthly rollup containing all security fixes needed to bring a computer fully up to date."

"And last but not least, there’ll be a third update that will include non-security fixes and which will be rolled on the third Tuesday of the month – this means that you’ll get it a week after Patch Tuesday."

The MS Monthly Updates arrived today, and just as I have suspected, KB2976978 is included! That was one of the previous offerings that would download WINDOWS 10 into your operating system! I suspect that since they have not yet achieved their goal of having nearly every user download Windows 10 they are including it here yet again. But isn't it, after all, supposed to COST at this point? What's going on here?

So, that is something to watch out for. The arrow on the box to KB2976978 can simply be "unticked" and you can HIDE the update if you do not want for it to be included in the download. If you do want it, then simply leave it ticked and it will download with the rest of the update.

You would have to read the license - I imagine that their are waivers and perhaps an arbitration clause. I have heard that there are ways to reverse the installation.

Yes I have read them and there are but I find this to be something almost outside of the norm. If I have a 68 vett and then I am forced to upgrade to an 85...

Fake Microsoft Security Essentials Antivirus Out in the Wild

"The company published a warning today to explain that this fake Microsoft Security Essentials antivirus is actually a scam detected as SupportScam:MSIL/Hicurdismos.A and whose only goal is to convince you that there’s something wrong with your PC, only to pay for fake repairs."

"The first fishy thing about this fake antivirus is that it’s aimed at Windows 8 and Windows 10 computers, but the genuine package can only be installed on Windows 7 and earlier – Microsoft Security Essentials was replaced by Windows Defender in Windows 8 and 10, and this is pre-installed on all systems."
