Proposing a History Book and Travel Club

@Mister D and myself thought to stimulate a lively historical discussion on the forum with like-minded people. It was our thought to pick a historical figure and discuss her or his life, and then (possibly) take a trip together with out book.

At first we were to suggest Louis the XIV as our first selection, but as the club might appeal to more women perhaps Eleanor of Aquitaine would be a better person to start with.

I've found a cheap trip to France that is $1200 that we could all take together.

If you're interested in the club or in the club and the trip, just post here so we can get started. Also, state your preference between Louis and Eleanor.
@Adelaide or @Peter1469 can you place a "sticky" to this?

I find the choice of Eleanor intriguing because she is the kind of figure that helps dispel some of the myths surrounding the medieval world.

I would enjoy the discussion but would have to pass on the trip...

    I vote for Eleanor...

I'm with PolWatch. All for the discussion, but right now I cannot afford trips

I can afford trips @Green Arrow. I am turning over a new non-scrooge leaf. Where are we going? If it's someplace that doesn't suck I can be involved.

I never pictured you as being very Scrooge-y to begin with

I think...er...is PBW Drew 1 or Drew 2? I get confused with the numbers. Anyway, I think he's coordinating that.

Sounds like a good book. And I am in for the trip. Let's try to avoid the summer and especially August for clear reasons. April-May; Sept-Oct ideal (although the last two weeks of Sept are out for me). But I am flexible.

PBW, what is the link to the other thread where you included the link for the travel site?

I like Louis, and would enjoy the discussion. No trip to France for me. Been there, done that. France (Paris) is rude to us Yanks.
