Pakistan Lifts Moratorium on Death Penalty

    http://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/pak...enalty-n269986

ISLAMABAD — Pakistan's prime minister lifted a moratorium on the death penalty on Wednesday, a day after Taliban gunmen attacked a school, killing more 140 children and teachers.

The bloodshed has shocked the nation and put pressure on the government to do more to tackle the Pakistani Taliban insurgency.

"It was decided that this moratorium should be lifted.

The prime minister approved," said government spokesman Mohiuddin Wan, referring to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's approval of the decision by a ministerial committee.

"Black warrants will be issued within a day or two," he said, referring to execution orders.

He did not give any details about who might be executed under such orders.

A moratorium on the death penalty was imposed in 2008 and only one execution has taken place since then.

There are believed to be more than 8,000 prisoners on death row in Pakistan, about 10 percent convicted of offenses labeled "terrorism," according to legal-aid group Justice Project Pakistan.

"Terrorism" has a very broad definition under Pakistani law.

About 17,000 cases of "terrorism" are pending in special courts.

I can only wonder if any of the 5 high ranking Taliban Commanders Obama released in exchange for Bergdahl were involved?
We must have the clarity of vision to see the difference between what is essential and what is merely desirable, and then the courage to bring our government back under control and make it acceptable to the people. - Ronald Reagan, 1980 Nomination Acceptance Speech

You'll know right away if the GOP throws hysterics ... because after all and like Bush said ... they believe 'Islam is the religion of Peace'

You know that's a slur, right?
Whoever criticizes capitalism, while approving immigration, whose working class is its first victim, had better shut up. Whoever criticizes immigration, while remaining silent about capitalism, should do the same.

I'm pretty sure it is in the UK, anyway.
@Paperback Writer Paki is a derogatory term, no?

Pakistan Kills 77 Alleged Militants in Wake of School Massacre

    http://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/pak...ssacre-n271446

Pakistani jets and ground forces killed 77 militants in a northwestern tribal region near the Afghan border, the army said Friday.

The violence at a school in Pakistan's northwest earlier this week stunned people around the country and sparked cries for retribution.

In the wake of the violence the military has struck targets in the Khyber tribal region and approved the death penalty for six convicted terrorists.

The military said it had carried out air strikes and ground operations Thursday and Friday in the Khyber agency.

The military said its ground forces late Thursday killed 10 militants while jets killed another 17, including an Uzbek commander.

Another 32 terrorists were killed by security forces in an ambush in Tirah valley in Khyber on Friday as they headed toward the Afghan border, the military said.

Three security forces were wounded in the ensuing shootout, it said.

Troops killed a further 18 militants during a "cordon and search operation" in Khyber, the military said.

Taliban fighters who allegedly stormed an army-run school in Peshawar pose for a picture before carrying out the atrocity.
The death warrants of six 'hard core terrorists' convicted and sentenced to death by military courts were also signed
