Donald Trump tells strategists 'you're hired' for potential 2016 presidential run
An early obstacle Trump would face, should he indeed decide to run for the Republican nomination for president in 2016, would be wariness on the part of voters who have heard him talk before about such a run without ever seeing one materialize.
In 2008 and again in 2012, Trump touted the possibility over months of statements in the media. But then he did not run. By trusting his stated intentions once again, the electorate could risk being made a Charlie Brown, taking one more run at kicking the football only to see it, at the last minute, being pulled away again.
In the past, politicians such as Newt Gingrich, Mike Huckabee and Sarah Palin have been accused of running for president or talking about running for president in order to sell books or burnish a personal brand, instead of actually to win the presidency. Trump is said to enjoy being at the center of attention, which is where his talking about running for president sometimes places him, although he has other ways of getting there.
Trump told the Post he was serious this time.
