ASSAD WARN AGAINST MILITARY INTERVENTION INTO SYRIA.....

    http://news.yahoo.com/syrias-assad-w...184524911.html

On Sunday, Assad brushed off President Barack Obama's condemnation, saying it has "no value."

"I am not worried about the security situation right now, we can say the security situation is better," he said.

He warned against Libya-style military intervention, saying there will be "repercussions" to any country interfering in Syria's affairs. There have been no serious international plans to launch such an operation, in part because the opposition has said it does not want Western countries to interfere.....snip~

Re: ASSAD WARN AGAINST MILITARY INTERVENTION INTO SYRIA.....

The sooner events finish in Libya the more likely Syria will be next to experience military intervention. A few weeks ago it looked like it was going to take a lot to finish the Libya mission off, now it looks like it is down to days at most before Gaddafi is finished. If I were Syria I would be very careful...another outburst could be the trigger to pushing the West to act. I don't think Syria is nearly as valuable as Libya and while the French have major ties to Libya I'm not sure who has ties to Syria and what they would have to offer an occupying force (as opposed to Iraq and Libya).

Obama's condemnation has no value. Assad's right. Granted, his bluster sounds as silly as Qaddafi's but we have no business there.

Syria was a French mandate for a while but I don't know if they still have an interest in the area.

I wonder what Israeli intelligence makes of all this.

Looks like Israel is a bit occupied for the moment.....pardon the play on words.

Israeli troops crossed into Egypt by land on Thursday, which prompted Egyptian security personnel to clash with them, said a report issued Saturday by the UN peacekeeping force in Sinai.

Israel said the Israeli forces shot the Egyptian soldiers by mistake while pursuing those who carried out an attack in the southern Israeli town of Eilat, also on Thursday.

The report said the peacekeeping forces did not witness Palestinians crossing from Israel into Sinai.

Wow. Now would be a good time for Israel to do whatever it wanted militarily since everyone else is busy with all the other chaos. Won't get as much media attention.

Thanks for the background D. Sounds like the French were all up in everyone's biz back in the day.

Gilad to ‘Post’: Israel not interested in new Cast Lead
    08/21/2011 20:44

Israel is not currently interested in launching an Operation Cast Lead-like offensive in the Gaza Strip and will positively consider requests by Egypt to permit the deployment of additional military forces in the Sinai Peninsula, head of the Defense Ministry’s Diplomatic-Security Bureau Maj.-Gen. (res.) Amos Gilad told The Jerusalem Post on Sunday.

I'm no alarmist but it looks like there is some potential for a serious conflict in the Mid East. We're already heavily committed so there is no way we would not be involved in some way.
