    Author Terry Pratchett dies

    Link

Sir Terry Pratchett, fantasy author and creator of the Discworld series, has died aged 66, eight years after being diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. "The world has lost one of its brightest, sharpest minds," said Larry Finlay of his publishers Transworld.
The author died at home, surrounded by his family, "with his cat sleeping on his bed", he added.
Sir Terry wrote more than 70 books during his career and completed his final book last summer.
I was privileged to have met Sir Terry back in 2003, before he was knighted, and before he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's.

A friend of my son introduced me to Sir Terry's work, and it was a joy to read. I eagerly await the last book.

RIP, Sir Terry, and may you be reborn as a Monk of Cool.

The last book of another author who died of Alzheimer's was analyzed after her death. It was discovered that her vocabulary was limited compared to her other books, but it wasn't noticed at the time.

Alzheimers is a terrible disease that sometimes seem to attack those with the most imaginative brains...people from Ronald Reagan to Norman Rockwell to Rita Hayworth. The description of it as the long goodbye says it all....
