I've come to notice a shift leftward in my own politics but i was somewhat surprised that the forum tilts that way even though some of those who lie to the left on that chart would not identify as such.

Terms like "left," "right," "liberal," "conservative," are all relatively meaningless in an American context. They have vastly different meanings elsewhere in the world. If Bibi Netanyahu was born an American and ran for President, he'd be jeered as a socialist, because in Israeli politics he is "right-wing" but, like pretty much all Israeli politicians, supports a strong welfare state and "socialized" healthcare. It's similar throughout Europe. American political divisions don't really exist anywhere else in the world.

Netanyahu is protrayed as rightist because he defends conservative policies:

- Less welfare (if they could they would privatize everything). If the rightwing does not defend (openly, in the closet they defend that and they try to do that, subversely) that in "welfare" countries it is because they know nobody would vote them. It does not mean that they would like to end to end welfare

- More religious policies.

- Strong nationalism

- Warfare policies.

But the point of the quiz is not where you stand on certain issues but whether you advocate the use of the state to enforce your preferences.
