He simply did not want to annihilate the Confederate army and by extension the old south. He wanted to beat them but just badly enough that a return to the prewar status quo would be acceptable. I must say I find that convincing. That he was somewhat sympathetic to the south is well known and that sympathy could very well have played a significant role in his failure to exploit the breakthrough at the Sunken Lane. Aggressive action then and there would likely have resulted in the complete destruction of Lee's army.

    Thanks for your contribution, Sage.

If McClellan had been fit for command, he would have finished off the Confederates early on. Instead, hundreds of thousands more Americans had to die and we will continue to die in other wars because of authoritarians who make excuses for those in power.

On September 11, 1697, Prince Eugene of Savoy crushed the Islamic jihad for almost three centuries:

    BATTLE OF ZENTA

    European dead: 429
    Jihadi dead: 30,000

I just explained to you why McClellan probably hesitated.

What Zenta has to do with this is anyone's guess.

Medieval peasants and artisans had much more time off than your average American as well as your average European until the post-war era.

The narrow-minded conformists in academentia didn't provide you with that analogy of what the incompetent McClellan should have done, so you are inhibited from accepting it.

We get it. You hate books. You need to find a new schtick, Sage.

So he should have attacked Zenta?
