    Comedy roasts

This is an interesting article that talks about the history of the Friar's Club Roasts, and compares them a bit to Comedy Central's attempts.

I actually bought my Dad a box set of DVD's that has all of the Dean Martin era roasts years ago, I love watching them still.

The sets of roasts today are designed to emulate that closed-doors conviviality of the Rat Pack-era Friars’ Club, with a smoky dais, champagne glasses, and leather couches. It’s tempting to imagine the past as a time of infinite glamour and class (have you seen Midnight in Paris yet?). But how classy were those 60s roasts, really?

Comedy Central roasts are probably one of the few things on TV that I'd watch.

If you get the chance, dig up on Youtube the roast of Larry the Cable Guy. Make sure it's not a censored version too.

There's a certain... level of maturity (maybe maturity isn't the right word, intellectual development maybe) that some people attain where insults don't cause them to $#@! the bed. Especially those of a comedy roast variety.

You really don't see the irony in that post do you? Whining about whining is also immaturity.

But i have a real ahrd time with what maturity is, because few people have any real backbone to turn the channel. All people want to do is yell and scream and hurt each other. It's fun, and it's trendy.

The old Friar's Club Roasts were so much better.
