I have heard that they tried to, but a police SUV got in the way.

Many people I know work there, including some family. You wouldn't believe the amount of security in place at that facility. I would venture to say it is one of the most heavily protected places on Earth.

FORT MEADE, Md. — Police opened fire on an SUV that tried to crash a gate Monday near NSA headquarters after it rammed one of the agency's police vehicles and refused to stop, NSA officials said.
One of the occupants of the vehicle died during a firefight that erupted afterward at Fort Meade, where about 11,000 military personnel and 29,000 civilian employees work — including thousands for the National Security Agency — the post's garrison commander, Col. Brian Foley, said in a statement.
The other man was wounded, Foley said but did not disclose his condition.

I have been checking local sources a lot, and heard things like that they tried to ram another vehicle through the gate, or that they had turned around and then went for a temporary barrier. I did hear too that they had stolen the SUV and robbed it's owner at a nearby hotel. And that the guy that is still alive lives in the city.
