Supply vs demand. But I think you're exaggerating.

When I enlisted around that time it was still a pain center to get enlisted in the Marine Corps. I don't know about the army standards of the time.

But now? They can be picky because the economy is in shambles and people with families need work. In times like WWII you took just about anybody with a pulse because you lost 5k men a day. Now? Not so much.

So you're saying it was OK to enlist criminals and gang members who disrupted the war operation and committed atrocities against the Iraqi people as well as the fellow troops?

It is a shame- the zero defect attitude probably blocks real warriors from service. It is very different from when I enlisted (1987). If we got into a fight downtown the only issue was whether you won. Now you get kicked out.
Many potential recruits (the one's who get weeded out) can barely write their names with a crayon. The armed forces normally want recruits with at least half of brain as opposed to having a carrot for a brain.

If you have a college degree the armed forces are definitely interested in you.

Once I tell you that we agree to disagree there will be no more discussion between us in the thread so please don't waste your time continuing to argue your points because I will not respond.

You obviously cannot respond intelligently so you must insult.

@Howey what are you expecting when you shove words into my mouth and make erroneous assumptions? Basically everything you insinuated was false and could easily be figured out by merely asking questions politely.

When you respond as you did it tells me that trying to paint me as something I'm not is more important than actual debate.

So tell me, why should I entertain such a posture with intelligent discourse?

I'll happily reset this conversation if you want to and we can do this as adults.

If not, I'm cool either way.

Perhaps if you remember that I don't post anything on here that isn't verifiable you can accept what I say and not call it "exaggerating" the adult conversation can continue.

The fact is the Bush administration allowed the enlistment of known gang bangers, drug abusers and even a murderer during the Iraq war. This seriously affected through combat operation. Period.

Okay. Now ask me if I am a fan of Bush.

    Go ahead. Ask.

Another thing, you can buy military manuals online or at a surplus store, or from some guy that was in the army.

But getting a book and reading it does not mean you are trained by the military.
