Demand for more mosques in France raises tension

Islamic radicals are calling for more mosques to be built in France. Backlash is the result.

We see that here when a tiny minority stomps its feet in order to get its way.

A call by Muslim leaders for the number of mosques in France to be doubled has aggravated community tensions barely three months after the Charlie Hebdo attacks.

"We have 2,200 mosques and we need double that within two years," the Rector of the Grand Mosque of Paris, Dalil Boubakeur, told applauding French Muslims at a conference.

Many Muslims believe local authorities in France block applications to open or build mosques and prayer-rooms, leading to overcrowding and protests over prayers held in the streets.

I wonder. Why circumvent the creation of mosques? It is prejudice or is there any reason behind it? Not a subject that I have researched. France has a large Muslim population. Leaving them to pray in the streets seems rather biased. As a country with a colonial history that involved Muslim lands, it does seem rather prejudicial to give them the right to come to France, but not the right to have adequate places of worship.

The French will likely expel their Muslims since they seem unwilling to become French.

If wanting to preserve a France that is recognizably French is prejudice then the more prejudice the better.

Whoever criticizes capitalism, while approving immigration, whose working class is its first victim, had better shut up. Whoever criticizes immigration, while remaining silent about capitalism, should do the same.

Perhaps they should have thought about that before they created French colonies in Muslim lands. They took what they needed from those people and in exchange made them French citizens. Somehow they didn't think that those chickens would ever come home to roost. There is no such thing as a free lunch, as the saying goes.

Agree. That is why I think they are going to wake up and expel the Muslims back to Muslim lands. They are fed up.

They being the same big business enterprises that oppress you. In any case, the French people had no say in the matter which is, again, a very similar situation to your own. Lastly, the French have a right to exist. Cosmopolitan hipsters may consign themselves to oblivion but healthy human beings are apt to protest.

The government of France should not be deciding how many mosques there are in France.
