Too many vitamins can give you CANCER, major new study warns the millions who take them

Around 18 million Brits down supplements thinking they are getting a health boost, but research has found they can have the opposite effect

Vitamin warning: Too many can give you cancer Taking extra vitamins “does more harm than good” and increases the risk of cancer and heart disease, a major study has revealed.
Around 18 million Brits down supplements thinking they are getting a health boost, but research has found they can have the opposite effect.
Dr Tim Byers – one of the world’s top cancer experts – examined research papers spanning 30 years.
He looked at three widely taken *over-the-counter pills and supplements, vitamin E tablets, beta-carotene and folic acid, and warned against exceeding the recommended daily amount.
Dr Byers said: “We are not sure why this is happening but evidence shows that people who take more dietary supplements than needed tend to have a higher risk of developing cancer.

“When we first tested dietary supplements in animal models we found that the results were promising.

That should read too much. My mom was big on vitamins and eating what she felt was the good foods. She lived actively till 90. None of her children have cancer and there are a slew of us. So as with most things take it was a large grain of skepticism. Since I have never been sick and get a cold maybe every five years or so I'll stick with certain supplements. Of course genes matter too. I always advise people to pick healthy, liberal, upper middle class parents.

The studies into this topic tend to use the cheap synthetic version version of vitamins and supplements. Also, people should not just swallow pills for the sake of it. You need to find out what you are deficient in, or if you have a specific condition, what would help at higher levels than recommended.

And as always, getting nutrition naturally is always the best bet. But that is hard to do with the factory farmed products.

If you eat properly you will get more than adequate nutrition. The problem is that many of us don't eat properly and don't care to.

Mega dosing on certain vitamins was in vogue back in the when ever the heck it was. Initially the naysayers just cried expensive piss. Then people started to OD here and there on some of them. I thought all this had already been sorted out.

I lay off supplements. I don't mind taking extra C when I don't feel well because it's water soluble but, with the exception of D in Winter, almost all of my vitamins and minerals come from food.

In general you are correct. Some people have conditions that prevent the normal absorption of specific nutrients.
