The only time they ran was during charges or retreats. It was trench warfare.

Soldiers have always been pack mules. The complete kit usually weighed a lot whether we're talking about a Roman legionary or a WW2 infantryman.

Anyway, it's patently obvious that this has nothing whatsoever to do with military efficiency. This is social engineering.

Yes but with our current technology A.T. hikers can exist for weeks with like 30 pounds of gear and food. If you ad a couple of guns and knives to that it would still only be 50 or so pounds

    Hikers aren't being shot at.

If they're going to war one would hope they gain at some familiarity with said art.

In the Marines, every Marine is trained in basic marksmanship and esprit de corps, so even women Marines have a basic understanding of how to kill the enemy.

However, it is nowhere near the level of intensity and refinement that is achieved in the infantry and special operations.

Put another way, Marine Corps boot camp teaches you how to be a Marine, whereas the Marine Corps infantry teaches you how to be a killer.

What are all the things they NEED to carry and with modern technology why does it have to weight so much? Especially the things that carry that apparently stop rifle rounds?
Also carrying that amount of weight would make you a sitting duck when you were being shot at.
It seems completely at odds with an otherwise high tech, first class military.

I'd imagine actually doing it is quite a shock regardless of how much training one has had.
