There must have been like a 500 year cutoff or something because the Greeks and Romans have this category filled up by themselves.

My list would be different. And Yorktown wouldn't be #1 (or on the top 10). The 1683 Battle of Vienna would be #1, and the Battle of Hastings in 106 would be #2. I would have to think about where to put some ancient battles.

Yeah. Hmmm. Lets make our own lists:

    1) Normandy Invasion - 1944

    2) Stalingrad - 1943

    3) Yorktown - 1781

    4) Battle of Thermopylae - 480 BC

    5) Waterloo - 1815 AD

    6) Battle of Pharsalus - 48 BC

    7) Battle of Marathon - 490 BC

    8) Battle of Gaugamela - 331 BC

    9) Battle of Pydna - 168 BC

    10) Battle of Salamis - 480 BC

I didn't include Hiroshima because that really wasn't a battle.

Maybe this weekend I will go through my Encyclopedia of Wars and come up with a list.

Parameters would be the influence of culture, religion, creativity, and achievement. Game changers. Thermopylae, Hastings, Crécy, Vienna (1683) (largest heavy cavalry charge in the history of mankind and the end of Islamic conquest in Europe), Normandy.....
