He is Swedish by nationality. I believe he was born in Iran.

Agree that that is a large part of the problem. Multiculturalism tears at the fabric of society.

I suppose it’s good if you’re a EU dead end welfare recipient.

Well, I don't think anyone seriously thinks of Sweden as Utopia - I never heard anyone say that.

Utopia. A utopia (/juːˈtoʊpiə/ yoo-TOH-pee-ə) is a community or society possessing highly desirable or near perfect qualities. The word was coined by Sir Thomas More in Greek for his 1516 book Utopia (in Latin), describing a fictional island society in the Atlantic Ocean. The term has been used to describe both intentional communities that attempt to create an ideal society, and imagined societies portrayed in fiction. It has spawned other concepts, most prominently dystopia.

But if you look at the rankings of the countries with the highest human development index (aka standard of living,) countries like Norway, Sweden Denmark, Iceland and Finland are at the top, together with countries like Australia, the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Canada and Ireland. The UK is only 16th, and the USA is 28th.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...y-adjusted_HDI

And all those countries have some socialism in them, so they must be doing something right. And like a country is not the same as a business, and the things that make a company successful (making loads of money,) don't always make a country successful.

Like if I have loads of money and can afford to live in a big house surrounded by an electric fence and armed guards, but the rest of the people are starving and hate me and will kill me to take my stuff if they get the chance - what sort of life is that?

Don't get hung up on a word like del. We should argue with words, not about words.

See this post: http://thepoliticalforums.com/thread...=1#post1201941. It takes examples from the OP article.

No, I'm not getting hung up on a word (like anyone). Your OP used the word Utopia, so that's why I talked about it. You seemed to be saying that people are mistaken cos they think Scandinavian and Northern European countries are better than the US (or UK) - I was trying to show why people think that.

Yes, you say "And all those countries have some socialism in them, so they must be doing something right." But the OP says that's historically not been the case in Sweden.
