Being too thin is not good either. If you ever get sick you have no resources to draw upon and your body starts "eating" your muscles and organs. Not good. If it lasts too long you will never recover from the damage done and remain an invalid for the rest of your life. You need a little fat over your bones as a reserve.

A friend in our church is unbelievably thin. Conversation this week revealed her BMI is 4. She's 5'7" and 93 lbs. She's 59 years old and has never had kids because she was so thin and is unable to gain weight.

    She doesn't look healthy.

A little meat on your bones is a good thing.

I've been drinking milk more for the calcium than anything else. You're right though. I'd be in some danger if I became seriously ill.

She's going to have real problems when she becomes elderly.

93 pounds strikes me as dangerously underweight for any adult.

This is simple to avoid and ive been doing it for almost 40 yrs. We do not buy chopmeat or ground meat.

I buy rump roast, top round, london broil, etc on sale and grind it myself. Its far safer, tastes better and you can make it as lean or as fatty as you choose. If you have a good grinder it takes a couple of minutes to grind 3 lbs of meat and then a simple disassembly of the grind and a good cleaning. There is no reason to buy ground beef.

I was stunned when I found out her age, I thought she was in her late seventies early eighties. She has a 16" waist.

Chubby people usually look younger, IMO.

I try to stay around 127-130 for 5'2" medium frame that's OK. If I get too thin I feel it ages me. I was 100-110 as a twenty something, I'll never be that weight again, I'd look like death warmed over.
A few curves in the right places are a good thing. lol
