Case for VW and the auto buyers

Somebody has to do it, why not me?

My defense of VW is based only on the buyer of the cars.

When they get 50 mpg driving the Diesel VW, this does the environment a lot of good. Better than only getting 40 mpg. At the lower mpg, they use 20 percent more fuel and put out more pollution.

The issue is over the oxides of Nitrogen. There are simply far too few VW Diesels for this issue to matter.

The EPA of the USA is a draconian institution.

It never disciplines itself the way it does to others. When it pollutes, it show up at Congress in the person of Gina McCarthy and creates crafty excuses.

There are cars globally producing a lot more NO than here in America. Save petroleum by getting 20 percent more economy.

VW should be congratulated not shamed into firing top people.

Problem is that this is going to greatly affect VW and perhaps other German auto companies.

Volkswagen's cheating engines can't be easily fixed

Volkswagen is confronted with a monumental challenge. The company has admitted that 11 million of its cars used illegal software to cheat emissions standards.

Now, many owners are demanding that the offending cars be fixed.

That's easier said than done, and Volkswagen has already tried — and failed — twice.

I think the bad thing is VW did this deliberately with the intention of deceiving the EPA. It wasn't poor design or a fault in the system. They fitted this software intentionally. They should fix it at their cost, and they should pay fines.

Exactly this was designed into the vehicles with software that switched off when the vehicles were tested and back on when they were on the road. VW did this because their diesels were underpowered when they complied with the EPA standards, so to give more power they deliberately broke the law.

Makes you wonder what software is all the other brands.

Some are suggesting this could have an impact on Germany similar to the Greek debt crisis.

The ironic take-away here for me is listening to union-supporting liberals praise Germany for having a successful union automaking industry with high labor/salary costs but none of them could explain why. This in part explains why, they cheated.

Having said that, the fringe right's saying "who cares about emission standards anyway" is nothing short of pond scum pathetic.

I think Germany's exports make up 54% of its GDP, or thereabouts.

Interesting fun-fact, Volkswagen was created by the Nazis.

Lol, true! But it doesn't mean anything, I bet lots of you drive Fords, and Ford was created by Henry Ford who was a horrible anti-semitic, supporter of the Nazis - financially and politically.

Hitler ordered that the "People's car" be built, for his people.

And Walt Disney was a Nazi sympathizer.
