Private Sector Employment Increased by 200,000 Jobs in September

Yea Yea Yea I know, some old boring story every month ...

    Source: ADP® (Automatic Data Processing)

ADP National Employment Report: Private Sector Employment Increased by 200,000 Jobs in September

ROSELAND, N.J. – September 30, 2015 – Private sector employment increased by 200,000 jobs from August to September according to the September ADP National Employment Report®. Broadly distributed to the public each month, free of charge, the ADP National Employment Report is produced by ADP® in collaboration with Moody’s Analytics. The report, which is derived from ADP’s actual payroll data, measures the change in total nonfarm private employment each month on a seasonally-adjusted basis.

Payrolls for businesses with 49 or fewer employees increased by 37,000 jobs in September, less than half of the August gain. Employment among companies with 50-499 employees increased by 56,000 jobs, 18,000 fewer than the previous month. Employment gains at large companies – those with 500 or more employees – rose dramatically from August, adding 106,000 jobs in September. However, companies with 500-999 lost 3,000 jobs. Companies with over 1,000 employees added 109,000 jobs, accounting for over half the total jobs added for the month.

Goods-producing employment rose by 12,000 jobs in September, off from 15,000 the previous month. The construction industry added 35,000 jobs in September, almost double the 18,000 gained in August. Meanwhile, manufacturing dropped into negative territory losing 15,000 jobs in September, the worst showing since December 2010.

Service-providing employment rose by 188,000 jobs in September, up from 172,000 in August. The ADP National Employment Report indicates that professional/business services contributed 29,000 jobs in September, nearly even with August’s 30,000 jobs gained. Trade/transportation/utilities grew by 39,000, up from 25,000 the previous month. The 15,000 new jobs added in financial activities was on par with last month’s 14,000.

Good thing I am hiring $8 an hour workers into our stores for training preparing for the holidays. I can't wait until January to pare back down.

I am tired of everyone fighting with each other. This is all by design.

Manufacturing Employment Up 189,000 Since Trump’s Election; Federal Government Employment Down 3,000
December 8, 2017 | Employment in manufacturing in the United States has increased by 189,000 in the year since Donald Trump was elected president, according to data released today by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
At the same time, employment in the federal government has declined by 3,000 since Trump was elected. In November 2016, there were 12,325,000 people employed in manufacturing in the United States. By this November, that had climbed to 12,514,000. “Since a recent low in November 2016, manufacturing employment has increased by 189,000,” the BLS said in the press release it put out this morning with the November employment numbers.

The federal government employed 2,811,000 in November 2016. By this November, that was down to 2,808,000—a decline of 3,000. But at the same time federal government employment was declining, overall government employment in the United States was increasing as a result of increased government employment at the local level. In November 2016, there were 22,294,000 people employed at all levels of government in the United States. By this November, that had climbed to 22,341,000—an increase of 47,000.

On the state level, as on the federal level, government employment declined. In November 2016, state governments employed 5,088,000. By November 2017, that had declined to 5,063,000—a decrease of 25,000. But local government employment increased by 75,000 in the past year, climbing from 14,395,000 in November 2016 to 14,470,000 in November 2017.

Unemployment Rate Remains at 17-Year Low
December 8, 2017 | The economy added 228,000 jobs in November and the employment rate stayed at 4.1 percent -- a 17-year low. The number of employed people increased 57,000 from October, reaching 153,918,000, which is below the record 154,345,000 set in September. (The number of employed people has set six records since Trump took office.)
The rest of the November jobs report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics was little changed since October. A record 95,420,000 people were counted as not in the labor force last month, up slightly from the 95,385,000 in October (also a record high). The labor force participation rate stayed flat at 62.7 percent; The highest it's been since Donald Trump took office is 63.1 percent. In November, the nation’s civilian noninstitutionalized population, consisting of all people age 16 or older who were not in the military or an institution, reached 255,949,000. Of those, 160,529,000 participated in the labor force by either holding a job or actively seeking one. The 160,529,000 who participated in the labor force equaled 62.7 percent of the 255,949,000 civilian noninstitutionalized population.

BLS noted that some of the year-to-year data is trending in the right direction:

-- The number of persons employed part time for economic reasons (sometimes referred to as involuntary part-time workers), at 4.8 million, was essentially unchanged in November but was down by 858,000 over the year. These individuals, who would have preferred full-time employment, were working part time because their hours had been cut back or because they were unable to find full-time jobs.

-- In November, 1.5 million persons were marginally attached to the labor force, down by 451,000 from a year earlier. (The data are not seasonally adjusted.) These individuals were not in the labor force, wanted and were available for work, and had looked for a job sometime in the prior 12 months. They were not counted as unemployed because they had not searched for work in the 4 weeks preceding the survey.

-- Among the marginally attached, there were 469,000 discouraged workers in November, down 122,000 from a year earlier. (The data are not seasonally adjusted.) Discouraged workers are persons not currently looking for work because they believe no jobs are available for them.

    'Labor force participation really matters'

On Nov. 28, Jerome Powell, President Trump's nominee to head the Federal Reserve Board, was asked for his views on whether the country has reached maximum employment: "Maximum employment is indeed our statutory goal," Powell told the Senate Banking Committee. And I guess the thing I would say at the beginning is, it's kind of an imprecise thing. You can't look at one particular measure of what that is. So we look at a range of things. And I think, for example, 4.1 percent unemployment is at or around, or even below many estimates of the natural rate of unemployment. So that's one data point. There are other dimensions, though: For example, labor force participation really matters, and particularly labor force participation by prime-age workers, particularly prime-age males. And that is -- that is the one measure, I think, that stands out now as suggesting that there may be more slack, more people that can come back to work. A wide range of other indicators suggest that we're at or near or in the neighborhood of full employment. We really can't be more precise than that.

Powell also mentioned wages, which do not indicate an "overheating economy or a particularly tight labor market."

I would expect that represents positions cut. People with federal jobs rarely quit. The suggestions that a federal employee would leave because of who is POTUS is stupid. Unless they are eligible for retirement. I am not sure how this crap gets posted. Probably talking points.

It isn't "stupid" to know that people are stressed out, but that is a strawman because I referred to people who people who just don't want to work for this administration. That would include people not signing up for any of the vacancies that do become available.

Apparently the Donald has trouble even getting people to nominate, let alone confirm http://www.cnn.com/interactive/2017/...p-nominations/

True, the vindictive hate from the left may not improve their chances once out of government.

There is a big difference between people not applying for federal jobs and people leaving those jobs, especially if they have significant time built towards retirement.
