    Lone Survivor

So admittedly I rarely watch war movies, they just aren't the type of movies that I like, however, I was curious about this movie because it had mark wahlberg and eric bana in it and I like mark wahlberg and eric bana. So i sat down this afternoon and watched the movie, almost changing the channel a few times because of the gore and stuff, but I didn't, I watched the entire thing. It was very tense and bloody and stressful but I don't think I ever cried so fast and hard while watching a movie as I did when at the very end of the movie they were showing pictures of special forces guys that were in the movie or connected to the movie's story that died and then pictures of them with their families...primarily the one picture scrolling through that utterly destroyed me was a picture of a dad smiling at his new born baby with the baby looking at him seemingly smiling too which looked like it was still in the delivery room and knowing that the dad died. Destroyed me. No joke. It makes my throat kind of hurt typing this. I won't watch the movie again but I was proud of myself for watching it.

Anyway, just thought i'd share that with you all since I often get criticized for my criticism of the military.

There is a great deal of heartache in war. It's good you watched it. You hate war so do I, but we must not forget the horrors of war and hopefully we don't keep making the same mistakes. We can't turn a blind eye to these events, that won't make them go away.

Your criticism of the military is grounded in a desire to keep our military personnel from dying in quixotic foreign boondoggles that do nothing to protect America, so don't worry if people criticize you for it. Your head and heart are both firmly in the right place.

Chloe theres nothing wrong with criticizing the military even those that were in it and did it, criticize it and sometimes the most because they know more.

Theres nothing wrong with questioning or criticizing anything

'Deer Hunter" too upset me terribly. I lost a dear friend in Viet Nam I was crazy about. That was 50 years ago and I still cry when I think of him. He was 19.

I think I'll watch an old comedy now to lift my spirits.

Unless this country stops believing the hysterical, fear-mongering propaganda being pushed by the war-profiteering banks and industrialists, then we should get used to sad movies about US military dying and leaving behind families. Although there does seem to be a transition towards robotic warfare that only kills and maims faceless, nameless foreigners, so maybe we won't have to worry about it as much going forward.
