Like female circumcision and so-called honor killings, selling one's daughter into marriage or prostitution is far from being a uniquely "Muslim thing". There are millions of devout Muslims who would never dream of doing any such thing. On the other hand, here in America, men and women are arrested and charged with pimping out their small children for drugs and money all the time, and church-going, conservative politicians are routinely found to be either patronizing child prostitutes or diddling their own children or grandkids. "Everyday Muslims" do a lot of things - so do Everyday Christians, Everyday Jews and Everyday Atheists.

All Americans do not share a "mentality". Neither do all Afghanis or Iranians or Fiji Islanders. Some Americans are criminal nutcases, junkies, pedophiles - you name it. Being an American and being wrong about something, or being a really awful person, are not mutually exclusive states of being. Similarly, being a Muslim doesn't automatically make you something bad. Simple as that.
