    Infuriated, huh?
Come sit down beside me I said to myself
And although it doesn't make sense
I held my own hand as a small sign of trust
And together I sat on the fence

    Here you go....

Taking aspirin is a cheap and safe way to prevent deadly blood clots, according to an international study. The research, which included trials in Auckland, found by taking the low-dose painkiller patients with blood clots were less likely to suffer a heart attack, stroke or reoccurring blood clots.
Auckland Hospital's Dr Paul Ockelford, who led the New Zealand trials, said the results would change the way patients with blood clots are treated.
"It's an exciting development," he said.
No need to thanks us. Be excited is all we ask.

    Another American tragedy unfolds.

Tourism NZ sought approval from Warner Bros for every aspect of its $10 million "Middle-earth" marketing campaign - even checking with the film studio over issues that did not directly concern it, official papers show.
The documents, released under the Official Information Act, reveal the extent of the company's sway over the government agency's "100% Pure Middle-earth" marketing strategy, as well as the influence of Peter Jackson's Wingnut Films.
We seem to be governed by 100% Wingnuts.

    But we knew that.

Modesty forbids but is easily overcome:
    1. Splitting the atom
    2. Conquering Everest
    3. First to fly heavier-than-air craft (though there is much debate about that - from mainly Americans but also others)
    4. First to enfranchise women and indigenous people
    5. One of the first welfare states (you'll hate us for that)
    6. Outstrips the US on most international social indicators
    7. Led the first US space flight (Explorer 1, guy called (Sir) William Pickering)
    8. Has produced some of the best fighting forces, at times in proportionately the greatest numbers, of any country on the planet (but, hey, what would Rommel know?)
    9. Has produced some of the finest international sporting teams and individualists in world sport
    10. Probably one of the fairest societies when it comes to treatment of indigenous and immigrant peoples (keep that "Dream" Act going)
    11. Is one of the least-spoiled countries on the planet (though the 100% clean, green claim is rubbish)
    12. Invented the jet boat (Sir William Hamilton)
    13. Won the Battle of Britain (Sir Keith Park, head of RAF Fighter Command) that saved Britain in WW2
    14. Have fought in every British and UN war from the Boer War (1899) to Afghanistan (but not the second Iraq war - which we, and now everyone, thought was nuts)
    15. Live longer than you do.
Shall I go on? Happy to fill in your no doubt many blanks.
