This is what character looks like.

French President Francois Hollande Welcomes Refugees Despite Paris Attack

French President Francois Hollande today promised that “France will remain a country of freedom,” defending his decision to honor a commitment to accept migrants and refugees despite Friday’s deadly terrorist attacks in Paris.

Hollande noted that “some people say the tragic events of the last few days have sown doubts in their minds,” but called it a “humanitarian duty” to help those people … but one that will go hand in hand with “our duty to protect our people.”
“We have to reinforce our borders while remaining true to our values,” he said.

It's amazing how quickly people will throw away the principles a country is founded on because of fear and ignorance.

Good on Hollande for doing the right thing. The right thing isn't always the easy thing to do.

That is not character. It is values. He places more value on some things than others. It will likely hurt him in the polls. Sarkozy's center right party will benefit. To a lesser degree so will the National Front.

It's called stupidity. These refugees aren't owed anything, they're not citizens. What's being done here is jeopardizing the well being of their own citizens for the sake of political correctness.

That's your take on it. Another take would be allowing ISIS to dictate policy would be caving to them, letting them win.

Sticking by your principles is hard. What's telling is how quick so many are in abandoning them when they are scared.

Had he held the opposite position, based off strongly held principles, would that also be good in your mind?

Or do you merely agree with his position?

They are the principles of his nation. They are also the principles of the US and Canada.

The only way Isis dictates policy to us if they make our leaders infringe on our rights. These refugees aren't citizens, ergo, no violation.

Being pc and a good Samaritan gets you what just happened. It's one thing to swallow your anger and press on when it comes to your civilian population, it's another when you force unwilling populations to make themselves less safe for the sake of political correctness.
