4 Ways to Survive a Terrorist Attack

4 Ways to Survive a Terrorist Attack

Here is an article on what to do to stay alive in a terrorist attack. I will add a couple more suggestions at the end.

One of the curious things about people is how quickly, and sometimes how slowly, we learn. In the wake of the Paris attacks and now San Bernardino, it seems people are finally starting to take preparedness a bit more seriously. We can sometimes be a bit harsh on civilians, and honestly, it is often quite funny, but when disaster strikes we all want everyone to be okay. We train for the worst-case scenario all the time, so preparedness is part of the air we breathe; it’s not that way for civilians who only know it through the evening news or their Facebook feed.

We have to give credit where it is due, and we have witnessed true heroism from people totally untrained and unprepared, who stand up when the worst day of their lives arrives. From the stoicism, everyday humor, and bravery exhibited by Londoners during The Blitz and the IRA bombing campaign from the ’70s through the ’90s, to the defiance of Parisians in the wake of the Charlie Hebdo and latest Paris attacks, civilians have greater reservoirs of bravery than they are aware of. But they are seldom prepared to act, and as a result, it takes time for them to react—that time costs lives.

You will have to read the link to know what these mean.
    1. Be the spark

    2. Look for the exits

    3. Be prepared

    4. Free your mind
If you suddenly find yourself in a terrorist attack and you have no way to fight back and have to run, run. Run away from the attackers and zig zag. The vast majority of these terrorists are poor shots and aren't going to hit a running / zig zigging target without pure luck. Remember in the Paris attack, several victims successfully used this tactic. Also we saw on video one of the terrorists didn't know how to clear a jam in his AK-47. That is below J/V team.

And if they throw grenades look for immediate cover. And remember that concealment is not cover. Lacking cover lay flatter to the ground that you ever laid before with your arms protecting your head. Hopefully your feet towards the grenade, but there may not be time for that. Grenades blast up and the shrapnel expands as they go up. So being as flat as possible is your best chance of survival if there is no cover. Be prepared for your eardrums to burst. Don't let that phase you. Be prepared to go back to step one above- run and zig zag.

From a slightly different perspective, for you fellas who have someone you would do anything to save:

Cover the principal. Get the principal to cover. If there is no cover remember that YOU are cover, it's not nice to think about but the human body will stop many bullets. Pete is right of course, concealment is NOT cover. Sheetrock walls, unarmored cars, interior or exterior doors, none of this is cover. Masonry, some fire doors, earth or stone, these things are the most likely cover you will find in an urban environment.

Leave the area as soon as possible. You will have to determine whether you are safer where you are or moving. If you move stay between the principal and the shooter, remember YOU are cover. Pick your destination, be it better cover, an exit, or the next cover point on your way to the exit before you move. Do not try to run backwards or while looking over your shoulder, you stand a much better chance of tripping or losing your principal than of spotting anything useful. Reassess the situation from your next cover. If your destination was the exit don't stop, keep moving away.

Repeat as needed until the principal is out of danger.

    I couldn't do your job.

I never met someone- other than family and loved ones, that I would act as cover for.

    They paid me pretty well.

Plus, there is a reason I don't do that anymore.

Ok there are some good points but there are also weapons all around us.

If you are in a different areas start looking janitors closets are great places of find things. then Concealment and Cover are your friends. and as pointed out there are many things that are not cover. but when used in combination can be Several desk flipped over can provide some cover those not Ideal. Cars are not great cover but putting the engine between you and fire will work.

The element of surprise is also great a mop handle and a brick corner are not a bad place fore an ambush and when the person is hit the handle is going to break and provide the new weapon in which to kill him with.

Remember for the most part we are talking about attacks with a gun Bombers you won't have time to react. but they have likely selected a place where they are not expecting resistance, thus they are not prepared for it in most cases

Going on the attack isn't always an option, but if it is you are correct.

On the explosion bit - open your mouth and your eardrums bursting may not happen. They will ring like hell, but might not burst.

And they aren't kidding about this either. Being only ten feet away from a grenade laying like this means the difference of the color of casket or whether you'll see another day.
