AP Exclusive: Memos show US hushed up Soviet crime

WARSAW, Poland (AP) — The American POWs sent secret coded messages to Washington with news of a Soviet atrocity: In 1943 they saw rows of corpses in an advanced state of decay in the Katyn forest, on the western edge of Russia, proof that the killers could not have been the Nazis who had only recently occupied the area.
The testimony about the infamous massacre of Polish officers might have lessened the tragic fate that befell Poland under the Soviets, some scholars believe. Instead, it mysteriously vanished into the heart of American power. The long-held suspicion is that President Franklin Delano Roosevelt didn't want to anger Josef Stalin, an ally whom the Americans were counting on to defeat Germany and Japan during World War II.

For a long time most USers were trained to react negatively to anyone accusing the Soviets of the Katyn forest event.

Even more suppressed is the religious nature of the killers.

I've heard that the Soviets interviewed each of the Polish officers on their attitude to the new regime. The ones that accepted the conquest, were not killed.

Don't know how true or extensive this was for all the prisoners.

The Bolshevik death squads were religious?

    Afraid so .
And Stalin was already well aware that US industry had managed to effectively re-arm Nazi Germany single handed . And then , unbelievably , this continued , even while Britain was fighting all by itself whilst supporting Russia via Murmansk etc . Finally , and to cap it all , the big US industrialists continued supplying Germany even after FDR made it a treasonable offence .
But let's not forget that if it were not for the US the English island would be a footnote --- Hollywood tag line .
Ha Ha . With america fighting on both sides -- they eventually came in about the time Boorman conceded the fight --- but at the right time to loot the Reich of its scientists and plundered wealth and then scarper back home after brokering a deal for 30 000 SS Officers to escape .
    $#@!ing brilliant .
Where's that film Spielberg or is the truth a nuisance?

    What religion was that, Cary?

The US single handedly rearmed Nazi Germay? Wow.

No, Cary. I wouldn't exactly describe your post as brilliant.

The Polish President was well known to order pilots to do stuff that they wouldn't otherwise do. I don't think that the Russians downed that plane. Although I believe it was a tragic accident, it is more likely that EU bureaucrats did it to get rid of this EU troublemaker than the Russians doing it.

    There's a surprise .
But when you have nothing better to do , check it out step by step .
It won't sit easy with Americans , but it took over 50 years for the Russians to start telling the truth over Katyn and that is "small beer" compared to this .
