For (3) to happen there must be powerful influences at play in American society that, for a society supposedly based on individualism, produces a uniformity of thinking that would be the envy of any religion.

Perhaps it would be useful to explore them.

One of the most powerful anaesthetics (and aphrodisiacs) is of course the notion of American "exceptionalism" which says, basically, "we are smarter and more powerful than you". It began with the start of American imperialism in the 1820s, 30s and 40s. The is now a patent absurdity but, since it did not ask immigrants to abandon their cultural heritage, it was easily overlaid (rather like a duvet) and became a vastly comforting message for new and old.

    There are other reasons.

What do you think they are? Religion? Materialism?

PS: my dentist is from South Carolina. So I always take a gun to my appointments.

    He understands.

I suspect there will a mass migration after this election of desperately depressed and disoriented Republicans to the one remaining haven for fascists in Europe.

    Belarus.
Fascists wants much more government power. Republicans in America want very little power in the central State.

You comparison fails. But what would a New Zealander know?

Agree. But not for reasons you express in this thread. Let's look at them:

Even with a straight face, my jaw drops a foot at (1) the ignorance of most Americans, (2) their total unawareness that they are ignorant and (3) their ability to inculcate this ignorance into immigrant populations who then become just like them.
Overgeneralization. It's just name calling on your part if you cannot articulate causes.

For (3) to happen there must be powerful influences at play in American society that, for a society supposedly based on individualism, produces a uniformity of thinking that would be the envy of any religion.
Again overgeneralization. Again, you need to articulate what these influences are.

Perhaps it would be useful to explore them.
Indeed, articulate what the problems are, what their causes are, what their effects are, and what solutions exist.

One of the most powerful anaesthetics (and aphrodisiacs) is of course the notion of American "exceptionalism" which says, basically, "we are smarter and more powerful than you".
Incorrect, American exceptionalism has to do with America being different than other countries, not that we're better.

    There are other reasons.

What do you think they are? Religion? Materialism?
What do you think they are? Seems to me your topic is just throwing spaghetti at the wall hoping something will stick. Or you're just trying to piss people off, as if that's something to accomplish.

Otherwise presumably OK , "normal" Americans tour Europe with an unbroken air of surprise and delight when they find out that it is nothing like the pictures that have somehow been built of it . Meeting Americans here is a revelation . They are just totally unprepared for what they find which is why it immediately becomes a second home for so many of them . The vast bulk of comment here shows a distressing ignorance of what goes on in Team GB , let alone , how, and , why .Most Americans are so badly misinformed that at times it almost looks like a deliberate policy to hide the " good news " and perhaps not shame them selves .
Insularity is one of the greatest disadvantages Americans suffer from , which is a circumstance which more easily allows them to beggar their global neighbours with such ease and disdain . That is , the full truth never dawns on them
The absurd attitude toward Muslims , as shown here by a very vocal group , is a prime example of poor education and complete ignorance of the truth . In civilised and balanced societies this immigrant group are an asset and cultural pleasure . The fundamental extremists are there but represent about 0.1% of their community . Maximum .

BUT , as John Maynard Keynes told us , beggaring your neighbours is but a short step away from beggaring yourself . An economic truth , because it is standing the test of time as the imminent collapse of the American Empire will once again bear testimony to .
    Struck out the unintelligible nonsense.

Let's look at Keynes whom I suspect you admire:

Keynes himself admired the Nazi economic program, writing in the foreword to the German edition to the General Theory: "[T]he theory of output as a whole, which is what the following book purports to provide, is much more easily adapted to the conditions of a totalitarian state, than is the theory of production and distribution of a given output produced under the conditions of free competition and a large measure of laissez-faire."

Keynes's comment, which may shock many, did not come out of the blue. Hitler's economists rejected laissez-faire, and admired Keynes, even foreshadowing him in many ways. Similarly, the Keynesians admired Hitler (see George Garvy, "Keynes and the Economic Activists of Pre-Hitler Germany," The Journal of Political Economy, Volume 83, Issue 2, April 1975, pp. 391—405).
    @ Hitler's Economics

the imminent collapse of the American Empire will once again bear testimony to
The dominoes will fall first in Europe.

The spinster and Cary were unaware of how "racist" their own countries are. I educated them. They have so much in common: they both have breasts, they are both generally clueless about racial attitudes in their own country, and they are both terrible at self-expression.
Whoever criticizes capitalism, while approving immigration, whose working class is its first victim, had better shut up. Whoever criticizes immigration, while remaining silent about capitalism, should do the same.
