    I need some advice seriously

    Ok here goes people.

since I retired I work part time in a hotel as a night auditor, tuesday night an officer came in and asked to see the hotel registry of guest, because one of our guests looked at him " strangely" ( officers words ) . I told him no not without a warrant .
I explained that under hospitality laws I could not allow him to look at the registry without the warrant, as hotel guest information is private and protected under the 4th and the 5th amendment,, good so far..

now wednesday night another officer came in and gave me a statute law that basically said the police could obtain information on any vehicle that is parked on our property.

I explained that the first officer did not ask for information on a guest vehicle but wanted to see the hotel registry, which I legally cannot do without a warrant,

what is going on here?? it desn't make sense for a cop to want guest information because of a "strange " look but then to have them come back on a vehicle law doesn't make sense to me..

    what do you all think??
The eastern world, it is exploding, violence flaring bullets loading. you are old enough to kill , but not for voting, this whole crazy world is just to frustrating, and you tell me over and over and over again my friend, you don't believe we are on the EVE of DESTRUCTION.

Never approach a bull from the front, A horse from behind, or a fool from any direction.

That's bizarre behavior. Have yuo seen these guys before? Are you sure they were cops?

All they have to do is run the license plate of the car in the parking lot. No need for them to involve you.

Probable cause exists that a crime has occurred and a strange look is not probable cause. They are hoping you will give them permission to not only search the car but to obtain permission to the room. If they find anything in the car then that will give them permission to your records and the room.

These are the types of cops that bother me. They are trying to use you hoping you don't know the law or try scare tactics. No they need a warrant.

The other person is correct, they can run the license plate and don't need you. Most likely because they are using these tactics when the person leaves they will pull him over stating
he looked like he swerved in the road and will tell him they have a right to search his car.

There are crooked cops out there that know how to play people and think they are above the law and get away with it.

That is extremely odd Wing. I admire you sticking up for your rights and those around you but be careful. Piss the wrong cop off and he can make your life a living hell without breaking any law. I would hate to see that happen to you over this sort of thing.

You did right WR.....it's like Pete stated. They would just run the plate. Did they show up at a time when the one they were casing wasn't around? Also were these Uniformed Cops?

I wonder if the police were involved in something "off the books" and didn't want official records?

When I was in college I did part time security work for a while. One place I was at was the parking lot of a cheap hotel on Airline Hwy in New Orleans (it actually may have been in Jefferson Parish). Some cops pulled up in a police car and one went into a room with a hooker. The other came over and talked to me. I told him that I was in college and only doing this gig part time. He said that I should consider NOPD after I get my degree. I responded that you guys don't get paid enough. He then looked at me and said that I would be surprised.

I actually know where Airline Highway is. NO has a reputation for corruption so I probably wouldn't be surprised.

Maybe they were looking into that sort of activity albeit unofficially? It's just odd behavior.
