I'm midway through The Devil's Trail by Robert J. Conley, his third and hopefully not last Texas Outlaw novel...if they made the series into a movie... I would consider watching...

I recently finished a book of short stories by Joe R. Lansdale, 'Hap and Leonard', featuring the same odd pair of chosen brothers who have appeared in about a dozen novels - most recently 'The Elephant of Surprise'.

Now I'm reading the third and final book in James Lovegrove's Cthulhu Casebooks trilogy, 'Sherlock Holmes and the Sussex Sea-Devils'.

Oh my god, are you in for a treat! The t.v. series got me interested in the books, and now I've read them all - I've lost count of how many novels - and met Craig Johnson several times when he was in Scottsdale for signings. He's a big nut and the best story teller I've ever known. I'm already looking forward to his coming here September 19th when the new Longmire comes out. You'll find that the novels and the t.v. series do not run along the same lines - in some areas, not even close; they are different animals, for sure, but both are really, really great.

Re-reading the funniest private eye novel ever written - 'Peeper' by Loren Estleman. Estleman is best known for his P.I. stories featuring detective Amos Walker, set in Detroit, for his westerns, and for his Sherlock Holmes stories. He will be here on Sunday, and I've never met him, so I have a stack of his books I hope to get signed.

    A time to reap
A time to kill, a time to heal
A time to laugh, a time to weep
    To everything (turn, turn, turn)
    There is a season
And a time to every purpose, under heaven
A time to build up, a time to break down
A time to dance, a time to mourn
A time to cast away stones, a time to gather stones together
    To everything
There is a season (turn, turn, turn)
And a time to every purpose, under heaven
A time to love a time to hate ,
    A time for war,
    A time for peace ...

I just picked up "The Overstory," by Richard Powers, but have only gotten a few pages in. So far, it's decent. Typically, I prefer mystery-type novels, but I also like trying to figure out why a certain book won a Pulitzer.
