While researching the origin of the phrase "take the bus to the hospital" (part of someone's comment elsewhere) I found the following.

An 82-year-old woman who was raped by a stranger after she got off a bus last week was forced to wait three hours for a Milwaukee police squad car to respond, police records show. The woman, who has difficulty seeing, finally called back the police dispatcher and asked if she could take a shower, which would have removed key evidence from the rape. The victim was told "do not do anything until a squad arrives." Finally, three hours and six minutes after the assault was first reported, squad cars arrived, according to records obtained by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. A department spokesman acknowledged the delay in response time was "excessive" and said the case is under review.

The police were probably too busy gunning down brown or poor people to have time to respond. Priorities, you know.

I think it more likely that she was simply calling from a part of town where the police don't consider such incidents to be any big deal.

Not sure exactly how big the city of Milwaukee is, but wouldn't you think it possible to pretty much drive - especially if you had lights and a siren on your vehicle - from one side to the other in less than three hours? Hard to believe that every officer on duty right then was on a more important call.

What's funny about that tragic Milwaukee incident is that there was no real city public outcry about it.....from anyone. I will say such an incident is highly unusual and the MPD did bend over backwards apologizing for that.
