With the death Thursday of Prince Rogers Nelson, you may see a strange mix on your Facebook feed of sex and religion.
That’s because perhaps one of the raunchiest, steamiest pop culture figures in the past quarter-century was a conservative Christian. Religious and spiritual themes ran through a huge amount of his work, including this tiny sampling of lyrics:
“Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to get through this thing called Life,” he intoned, pastor-like, in “Let’s Go Crazy.”

Investigators want to interview doctor about Prince case
May 7, 2016 — A law enforcement official says investigators want to interview a California doctor and his son about a prescription drug the son brought for Prince before the singer was found collapsed in an elevator at his Minnesota home.

The official told The Associated Press investigators also want to know if Dr. Howard Kornfeld and son Andrew Kornfeld had a longer-term medical relationship with Prince. Neither is accused of wrongdoing.

The law enforcement official had been briefed on the investigation and spoke on condition of anonymity because he wasn't authorized to speak to the media.

The Kornfelds' attorney, William Mauzy, said Prince's staff called Howard Kornfeld on April 20. He sent his son on an overnight flight with the drug buprenorphine. Andrew Kornfeld found Prince unresponsive and did not administer the drug.

Questions linger about Prince's choice of local doctor
May 11, 2016 -- If Prince was seeking help for a problem with prescription drugs, it would make sense for him to turn to a California addiction specialist known for new ideas on treatment. Less clear is why he sought care from a local family care physician with an unassuming resume who met with Prince twice in the weeks before his death and prescribed him unknown medications.

The day Prince died, he was scheduled to meet with the son of Dr. Howard Kornfeld, the California specialist in addiction treatment and pain management. But in the weeks before Prince's April 21 death, he met twice with Dr. Michael Todd Schulenberg, who worked at a Minnetonka clinic a few miles from Prince's Paisley Park studio and home, according to search warrant documents released Tuesday. Prince's cause of death is still unknown, as the autopsy results haven't been released. But a law enforcement official has told The Associated Press that investigators are looking into whether he died from an overdose and whether a doctor was prescribing him drugs in the weeks before his death. The official has been briefed on the investigation and spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because he wasn't authorized to speak to the media.

Investigators interviewed Schulenberg the day Prince died and searched a suburban Minneapolis hospital that employed him. The warrant documents didn't specify what medications were prescribed or whether Prince took them. The warrant details came out the same day investigators returned to Prince's estate and stayed for several hours without saying why. The official who spoke to AP said investigators are seeking to identify every doctor and pharmacy that may have supplied the singer prescription drugs, including online sources, and that the search involves examining computer drives from Prince's home.

It remains unclear why Prince, a world-famous musician worth millions, would seek the help of an experienced but seemingly ordinary local physician instead of first turning to world-class health care. The Star Tribune, citing a source with knowledge of the investigation, previously reported that Prince had been receiving treatment for withdrawal symptoms from a doctor who previously worked with Prince's longtime friend Kirk Johnson. Johnson's attorney, F. Clayton Tyler, didn't immediately respond to a message seeking to confirm that Johnson and Prince shared Schulenberg as a doctor.

Schulenberg, 46, worked for North Memorial Medical Center until at least the day of Prince's death, but he has since left the job. Lesa Bader, a spokeswoman for the health care system, said North Memorial's personnel records were private and she couldn't comment on why Schulenberg no longer works there. According to the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice website, Schulenberg has not been subjected to any disciplinary or corrective action in Minnesota or other states. He's a 1995 graduate of the Oregon Health Sciences University School of Medicine. His license status is listed as active. It expires Oct. 31 of this year.

Numerous opioid painkillers were found at US singer Prince's home shortly after his death last year, unsealed court documents show. Some of the pills discovered at Prince's Paisley Park estate in Minnesota had prescriptions in the name of his friend and bodyguard. But the documents do not offer evidence about the source of the fentanyl that killed the singer on 21 April 2016. Medical examiners have concluded that he died from an accidental overdose. No-one has been charged over the death of the 57-year-old singer. The court documents were kept sealed until Monday because prosecutors feared potential witnesses might flee or potential evidence be destroyed.

They show that some of the pills found at Prince's home were labelled "Watson 853" - the opioid painkiller acetaminophen-hydrocodone. They are used in the treatment of pain, rheumatoid arthritis and coughs. The unsealed documents also show that other "numerous narcotic controlled substance pills" were discovered in various containers, including vitamin bottles. Investigators were "made aware by witnesses that were interviewed, that Prince recently had a history of going through withdrawals, which are believed to be the result of the abuse of prescription medication," the documents say.

They confirm last year's media reports that painkillers were in the singer's possession following his death. According to the post-mortem report, Prince self-administered fentanyl, an opioid many times more powerful than heroin. Prince was found unresponsive in a lift at his complex. He was a prolific writer and performer from a young age, reportedly writing his first song when he was seven. A singer, songwriter, arranger and multi-instrumentalist, Prince recorded more than 30 albums. His best known hits include Let's Go Crazy and When Doves Cry.

Tuesday 18th April, 2017 - A doctor who saw Prince in the days before he died had prescribed pain medication oxycodone under the name of the singer's friend to protect his privacy, according to court documents.

But the documents, unsealed on Monday as the year-long investigation into Prince's death continues, revealed nothing about how the pop superstar got the fentanyl that actually killed him. Prince was 57 when he was found alone and unresponsive in a lift at his Paisley Park home in Minneapolis on April 21 last year. The documents show authorities searched Paisley Park, mobile phone records of Prince's associates, and Prince's email accounts to try to determine how he got the fentanyl, a synthetic drug 50 times more powerful than heroin. They do not reveal answers, but do shed light on Prince's struggle with addiction in the days before he died. Oxycodone was not listed as a cause of Prince's death.

A search of Prince's home yielded numerous pills in various containers. Some were in prescription bottles for Kirk Johnson, Prince's long-time friend. Some pills in other bottles were marked as if they were a mix of acetaminophen and hydrocodone - but at least one of those tested positive for fentanyl, meaning the pill was counterfeit and could only be obtained illegally. The documents show Prince was struggling with an addiction to prescription opioids. Just six days before he died, Prince fell ill on a plane and made an emergency stop in Illinois as he was returning home from a concert in Atlanta. Medics revived him with two doses of a drug that reverses the effects of an opioid overdose.

One court document says Dr Michael Todd Schulenberg, who saw Prince on April 7, 2016, and again on April 20, admitted to authorities that he prescribed oxycodone for Prince the same day as the emergency plane landing "but put the prescription in Kirk Johnson's name for Prince's privacy". Authorities also searched Mr Johnson's phone records to see who he was communicating with in the month before Prince died. Dr Schulenberg has an active medical licence and is currently practising family medicine in Minnesota. His lawyer Amy Conners said last week that there are no restrictions on his licence. Investigators have not interviewed either Mr Johnson or Dr Schulenberg since the hours after Prince died, an official with knowledge of the investigation said.

Prince did not have a mobile phone and authorities searched multiple email accounts that belonged to him as they tried to determine who he was communicating with and where he got the drugs that killed him, according to the search warrants. The documents do not reveal the outcome of the email searches. The documents say some of the drugs in Prince's bedroom were in a suitcase with the name "Peter Bravestrong" on it. Police believe Bravestrong was an alias that Prince used when he travelled. The suitcase also contained lyrics for the song U Got The Look that appeared to be in Prince's handwriting.
