What we know about Omar Mateen, suspected Orlando nightclub shooter.....


The gunman is a U.S. citizen, but his family is from Afghanistan originally. Mir Seddique, the suspected shooter’s father, told NBC News that the shooting had “nothing to do with religion.” He also said Mateen got angry when he saw two men kissing in downtown Miami a couple of months ago and that he thinks that may have been a trigger in the shooting.

Ron Hopper, the FBI assistant agent in charge, said at a news conference that they are “looking into all angles” but “do have suggestions” that the suspect had leanings toward jihadi ideologies.

Law enforcement sources also told NBC that Mateen was born in New York.

Online records show he was a registered Democrat.

Law enforcement officials told ABC News that Mateen had been “on the radar” of U.S. authorities for a while, but that he was not the target of an investigation.....snip~

Officials haven't confirmed that he was wearing a suicide vest, but if they do, it'll open up a whole new can of worms here.


It's odd that he took the hostages after killing so many. Was he afraid to detonate the suicide vest? Having second thoughts?


What to make of his calling 911? Just to make sure Daesh knew he was "obedient?" Or, was he trying to make a different statement?

No.....but it does say he was on the radar of US Authorities for a while. But not under any investigation. Did somebody drop the ball at DHS under BO peep watch?

Could have been anywhere. He had a CC license and was trained in shooting. Although the FBI had "looked" at him -- there was nothing to indicate that he could do something like this. They couldn't legally restrict him from buying guns as long as they had nothing on him.

He had previously made statements that he had ties to radical Muslim groups, but they must have dismissed that. And, it's likely that he didn't -- but -- he wished he did.


Seems as though an angry young man as it appears he was -- should have been higher on the "watch" list.

The odd thing about what his father said -- that two men kissing made him do it -- is that only a radical would view that situation in that light. A normal person would roll his eyes or something. So, his father isn't doing his son's memory any favors by making that comment.

If his dad is telling the truth -- then it indicates that the shooter was a religious nut -- and thought along the same hateful lines as those who think they are bound to kill females in the family to preserve the family's honor.
