Come sit down beside me I said to myself
And although it doesn't make sense
I held my own hand as a small sign of trust
And together I sat on the fence

Many Americans are there already . Look at the obsessive hate displayed by so may extremist Republicans here .
Based on Rep tactics following their 2008 defeat , I suspect that the looney right and the kids will resort to extreme tactics after Obama is re-elected .
The Reps are cornered and covered in mire . A very dangerous type of enemy .
Cary, do you even realize what a hypocrit you are? You are just full of hate yourself and you claim republicans are full of hate. Conservatives are upset and interested in saving our republic, American values, american traits. Not in Britain. HERE. We don't want to kill the unborn or children or ANYBODY. We dont call for property damage or bodily injury. We have not been looting or threatening to shoot a president or any candidates. The Tea Party, in case you don't know it, are hard working, decent, God fearing people interested in preserving our nation. We don't damage property when we protest, we don't hurt people, we even clean up after ourselves. YOU listen to too much left wing propaganda. You can't believe your eyes to see who the real bad guys are in this thing are. it's the left, the media, The Obama admnistration, Socialist members of congress, oWs, seiu, aflcio, media and community organizers everywhere. STop being so easily led.
WHAT tactics did the right indulge in after 2008? Do you need to check with Rachel Maddow on that??
It's the LEFT, NOT THE RIGHT, that uses CHILDREN for political purposes. What? Any filthy hippy can protest and clean middle class american are not allowed to??
I think you have no inkling of my pedigree --- past and present -- and your assumptions are based on wishful thinking and what you assume is convenience .
I have been a true Conservative all my life but never been identified or been involved with any political party .
I think that modern Conservatism in the UK has much to commend it and suggest it as a template for all aspiring intellects of a pragmatic nature .
I don't hate . Just speak my mind . And if there is little remaining of an honest "Old America" , that is hardly my fault .
As for gullibility and suggestibility , you have my word that it is unlikely you know anybody who is less suited to such tags . I appreciate that this guarantees little because we are in a virtual world .
But I am a great believer in reading between the lines , if you have eyes to see .
It appears that 90 million Americans don't vote, And it has been calculated that Democrats outnumber Republicans 3 to 1 in this population.
Which means that America is far more liberal (in a centrist sort of way) than the results of elections make it look. What that points to are structural barriers in the voting system - many, as we know, cynically erected by Republican governors in their states through local voting regulations, gerrymandering and the rest.
It has always puzzled me that the US appeared to be so right-wing. While it probably is to an extent not known here, it is nowhere near as right-wing as I thought. In a fully-participatory democracy, Republicans would probably never govern.

When we get to 100% Liberal, then most of the time, no one will need to vote, because all the representatives will always be doing what is right for the whole country. Only when they get tired, and retire, will there be a need to have a vote for a replacement. Then since Liberalism is a more trusting philosophy, most of us will still not vote, and it might even come down to just drawing numbers from a hat between the various replacement candidates.
