Jackson's absence testing patience in Chicago

He should probably just throw in the towel, obviously he's not well enough yet to run.

    http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012...est=latestnews

Election Day is five weeks away, and Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. remains out of sight.
It's an absence, both from his job in Congress and his campaign, that's starting to test patience in his Chicago hometown.
More than three months have passed since Jackson disappeared, initially a mystery that was later revealed to be a hospitalization for severe depression and gastrointestinal problems. There have been few updates on his condition and no hard answers to questions about his future.
All that aides will say is that Jackson's name is still on the ballot, even though he's yet to make a campaign appearance since last spring's primary. His wife, Chicago Alderman Sandi Jackson, has tried to say nothing at all. When pressed, she insists she won't step in to take his place.
"You ask anyone in this district, which one of them could take 90 days off of work?" said Jackson opponent Brian Woodworth, a college professor and Republican running what remains a longshot campaign in a mostly South Side district that is heavily Democratic.

Woodworth won't win, even against a no-show. There ya' go...just like in baseball where we had a Shoeless Joe Jackson, Chicago has a No-Show Jackson!

    Thumbs up

Granny says a lie of omission is still a lie...

Rival: Rep. Jackson ‘cheated’ voters by not revealing plea deal talks
November 8, 2012 - Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. “cheated” the voters.
But, knowing as much as they did, those who re-elected the MIA congressman are “crazy, mindless voters who are taking orders from downtown.” Those were some of the reactions from Jackson’s just vanquished rivals as they took in the surprise news that the freshly re-elected South Shore Democrat is in plea negotiations for alleged misuse of his campaign funds. The surprise development also raises the possibility, should Jackson step down or be forced out, of a costly special election straddling at least three counties right after a general election was just held. Word of the plea talks set off another flurry of interest in the 2nd Congressional District seat. The district includes some of the most economically devastated portions of the city but ostensibly has had no representation since Jackson went on leave in June.

Marcus Lewis, who ran as an independent Tuesday, voiced his frustration with voters, who gave Jackson 63 percent of the vote. “We’re dealing with crazy, mindless voters who are taking orders from downtown. The 181,000 that voted for Jesse in spite of knowing that the man is up on charges, knowing that he cheated on his wife,” he said. “Knowing that he has a 244-page ethics investigation. They’re crazy!” Jackson has not been charged with any crime. But one day after he was re-elected Tuesday in a commanding win, Chicago Sun-Times columnist Michael Sneed revealed that Jackson is in plea negotiations with federal authorities. The story was first reported on the Sun-Times Web site late Wednesday.

Sneed reported that not only is Jackson under investigation for allegedly using campaign funds to decorate his Washington home, but investigators are also trying to determine whether he used campaign funds to buy a $40,000 Rolex watch as a gift for a female friend. “This needs to be destroyed. This machine needs to be destroyed forthwith,” Lewis said. “They’re playing us like we’re silly. I know people who are suffering in the district. We needed to get in there. It’s a machine that is like a poisonous cobra.” A longtime Jackson critic, Anthony W. Williams, who ran as a write-in candidate, said the Jackson political dynasty manipulated voters. “The voters of the 2nd District have been cheated once again,” said Williams. “It is important that we call for a special election.”

The Jackson saga has a sense of deja vu. If the South Shore Democrat does pleads guilty, he will be the second congressman in a row from the South Side and south suburban district to be convicted of a crime. He is already the third consecutive 2nd Congressional District representative to be embroiled in a sex scandal. If Jackson were to step down, by law, a special election would have to be held to fill the vacancy. That means that taxpayers would have to foot the bill for a special election. Chatter of a replacement has already run rampant.

    Red face

Humbled & moved by the support...

Jesse Jackson Jr. wins 10th term despite fed investigation
    November 6, 2012 : He made just a single robo-call. He’s facing a federal investigation.
He’s made two visits to the Mayo Clinic — where he is now — since he took a leave of absence for treatment of mental-health problems. Despite it all, Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. won his 10th term in the South Side and south suburban 2nd Congressional District on Tuesday.

With 73 percent of precincts reporting, Jackson had 68 percent of the vote. Brian Woodworth, the Republican candidate, had 18 percent, while independent Marcus Lewis had 14 percent.

“I am humbled and moved by the support shown today,” Jackson said in a statement. “Every day, I think about your needs and concerns. Once the doctors approve my return to work, I will continue to be the progressive fighter you have known for years.”

Last week, Jackson’s campaign staff said the congressman wouldn’t be hosting an Election Night event and already had voted by absentee ballot. This Election Day, Jackson’s South Side campaign office was locked and dark, save for a reception area light. The Democrat remained in treatment at the Mayo Clinic, said Nick Hanson, a spokesman for the Rochester, Minn., facility.

I am sorry he's suffering, but I think it should be under control/medicated, until he should be allowed to serve the general public.

Mebbe he figgers he got it all sewed up...

Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. has ‘no plans for Election Night,’ campaign says
October 31, 2012 - U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., who is being treated for mental health issues and is facing a federal probe, will not host an Election Night event and has voted by absentee ballot, a spokesman for his campaign said.
Jackson, who is up for re-election next week, is still being treated at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., hospital spokesman Nick Hanson said in an email Wednesday.

The South Shore Democrat was admitted to the clinic earlier this month for follow-up treatment for bipolar disorder and depression.

Jackson’s campaign is making decisions based on what the doctors say. “There’s no plans for Election Night,” spokesman Kevin Lampe said. “We’re waiting for his doctor’s approval to return to work.”

Lampe said it is not yet known whether Jackson would still be in the hospital on Election Night, again saying that it’s up to the doctors to decide.

I'm still trying to find two people who care? Other than Jessie Sr.
