I always enjoy when a Trump supporter wants to ignore his record & then quote Martin Luther King

Following Hillary Clinton’s speech on Donald Trump’s hate movement, one of CNN’s in-house Trump supporters waxed indignant about how Trump has as many as eight or 10 African American supporters, who he has “empowered,” thus proving he is no racist. But it’s when Kayleigh McEnany brought Martin Luther King Jr. into her defense of Trump that things went really wrong for her, with Priorities USA’s Guy Cecil teeing off on the difference between Trump and King:

Kayleigh McEnany: He has been trying hard to be inclusive. What we saw today was divisive, it does nothing to bring us together. What Martin Luther King said was we have to learn to live together as brothers, or we will perish together as fools. Hillary Clinton’s speech did nothing to help us live as one united country.

Guy Cecil: I always enjoy when a Trump supporter wants to ignore his record and then quote Martin Luther King. Martin Luther King would not have kicked African-Americans off of a casino floor because a gambler wanted him to. Martin Luther King would not have put a C on top of a rental application and prevented African Americans—

McEnany: —that was never proven!

Cecil: —prevented African Americans from renting from him. Martin Luther King would not have sat on a stage and ridiculed individual Muslims. He would not have insulted a Hispanic judge who was born in America and just happened to be of Mexican heritage. The idea that Donald Trump should get pats on the back because he sat at a table with six African-Americans—this is 2016

CNN’s Brooke Baldwin ended the segment by saying something that has to qualify her as a finalist in the stiff competition for stupidest thing said by a CNN host this week: “I don’t know what Dr. King would think. He is not here.”

Um, I’m pretty comfortable going out on a limb suggesting he would still be opposed to racial discrimination.
