Treaties are meant to keep us from doing something. Countries like Russia and China love any treaty that benefits them. When they don't they could care less about them. When the "outer space" treaty was made we were the only country that could militarize the space around the earth or the moon itself. We should have put SDI into effect many years ago.

You had claimed they would assert sovereignty using ancient international law. That is false, as the OST overrides such law. I'm just pointing that out.

The US isn't particularly well-known for abiding by treaties it doesn't want to. In fact it has the same reputation you describe above. That said, I guess I'd rather have the US claim space then Russia? Frankly I find both countries to be basically the same in re: expansionism and military domination.

We should colonize the moon when our infrastructure is falling apart? Are you kidding me? What a waste of resources that would be. Let's work on the planet that provides us sustenance first. And who is going to pay for this? Idiocy knows no limit.

Nobody will follow the Outerspace Treaty when it is possible to militarize the moon or Mars.

It would create wealth. And it is a good source of clean energy.
