I hear you ... problem is, Trump has never been to an inner-city (code for black ghettos) nor a war zone.

That's probably true -- politicians, for the most part -- just make $hit up as they go.

I wasn't really aware that "inner-city" was code for "ghetto" but now that you told me -- I'll keep it in mind. I don't like saying "hood" because it sounds derogatory. And, I don't like separating the violence based on race, because it has a lot more to do with poverty than it does race.

What should I say?

Having worked in the inner city, and traveled by bicycle, walked and photographed there, it is as safe as anywhere. What makes America unsafe is the proliferation of hand guns, statistics clearly show that. But it is your constitutional right to be scared and frightened when moving about your country. That's what the founders meant when they wrote about that well regulated militia. Any day now the native tribes could rise up and want their land back. You see what's happening in South Dakota. Trump better watch out the natives may want NYC back. Dah was robbed! Maybe it's the water, America grows dumber as this election marches on.

"We're going to rebuild our inner cities because our African-American communities are absolutely in the worst shape that they've ever been in before. Ever, ever, ever," Trump assessed.

"You take a look at the inner cities, you get no education, you get no jobs, you get shot walking down the street."

Trump is right. The same thing was true at the height of the Iraq conflict. Several American cities death tolls surpassed the battlefield deaths of our troops.

Well, since the US is still actively at war in Afghanistan, I supposed it's valid to compare American deaths there (per current year) with American deaths from violence in our inner cities.

Which brings up an interesting point -- if parents of gangbangers were to insist that their children enlist in the military and be stationed in Afghanistan -- perhaps those young men would not only be alive to talk about their adventures, but also come back more disciplined and ready to be contributing members of society.

I wonder if it would be constitutional for a judge to sentence someone who was involved in gang violence to a stint in the Army? A sentence like that just might save the lives of some young men -- and future victims.

The army isn't taking court directed recruits these days. If another big war starts it might well start up again.

the combat soldiers in afghanistan or iraq represent the best that America has.
